10 of the Best New Year's Eve Hotels by Dinah Hatch

"With 43 acres of woodland parkland at your disposal, the Cornwall estate and Spa is a great spot to choose for New Year’s Eve celebrations if you have children in tow. The hotel’s two-night stay packages give you the option to explore the area so get the kids to do the trail around the grounds with clues while you watch with some afternoon bubbly from the terrace while admiring the Pentewan Valley views. Little ones will also love the infinity pool in the spa which looks over a Victorian walled garden and further to Cornish coastal landscapes. On the big night, enjoy the five course gala dinner, fireworks from the terrace at midnight and dancing until 1am before retiring upstairs. Perfect."

Top 10 Places to See Glorious Floral Displays by Dinah Hatch

"The Lost Gardens of Heligan, near Falmouth

Who can resist this wonderfully mysterious name? One of the country’s most famous restorations in the UK, the gardens were rescued from a neglected wilderness and now are a must-see in Cornwall. Don’t miss the jungle walk with exotic plants and tree ferns, the terrific rhodo displays and the woodland trail and carpets of bluebells. The pretty Italian Garden and rainbow-coloured herbaceous borders are a delight too. Visit at dusk and you can sit and watch the pipistrelles flitting between the batboxes and watch the kingfishers swooping over the two lakes. Gorgeous.

The Cornwall Hotel, Spa and Estate near St Austell sits in 43 acres of parkland – the food is award winning, the spa bang up to date and world-class and the beach-ready setting perfect."

Cornwall vs Scotland for the perfect family holiday by Dinah Hatch

"There’s a relaxed approach to children at the Cornwall Hotel Spa and I guess they’ve got room to be – with 43 acres of wooded parkland at their disposal, the shrieks and laughter of children playing with their friends around the estate is a good indicator of family-friendliness. There’s a really lovely trail around the grounds with clues that the kids can do to get acquainted with the estate (and you can watch them from the Parkland Terrace sipping on a coffee and enjoying the Pentewan Valley views). The spa, for all its high-end treatments, is also very welcoming to children thanks to the infinity pool, which looks over a Victorian Walled Garden and beyond across Cornish coastal landscapes. Rooms can easily accommodate two children (a sofabed was made up for my two when I visited) and the large, very modern bathrooms make bathtime stress-free (mine loved the fact you could watch Cbeebies from the bathtub!). Out and about, the hotel will help with suggestions for stuff to do – try kayaking on Porthpean Beach or a touch of rock pooling at Gorran Haven, a stunning protected little bay just a few miles away."

Ten of the Best Hotels with Gorgeous Grounds and Gardens by Dinah Hatch

"A visit on Easter Day with young children meant an egg hunt was always going to be on the cards but it provided a perfect excuse to depart from the comforts of this sleek upmarket hotel to explore the parklands and woodlands that surround it. When the Cornwall was built on this 43 acre estate, the owners were careful to preserve a medieval wayside cross that they discovered plus a Victorian vinery, a walled garden and a quirky little wine cellar, all of which you will stumble across as you stride through the oaks, sycamores, beeches, poplars and chestnuts in the grounds. You’ll also encounter a bat hotel (oh yes) and some resident woodpeckers, ducks and geese."

Review of The Cornwall Hotel, Spa & Estate

This was our second weekend away here and we were not disappointed! Check in was easy and quick. Our room was lovely. Massive bed, lots of space and storage, a balcony with a lovely view of the grounds (it was so peaceful to sit out here with a cuppa in the morning) and the best part considering the weather... air con!! I rang down to reception on arrival and requested decaf tea bags and fresh milk - it arrived within minutes!
The spa is so relaxing. I went both days of our stay and seemed to pick times when no one else was around. Lazing in the pool looking out to see rabbits frolicking in the garden was priceless. I loved the steam room and the outside chairs for relaxing

'We stayed in one of the two bedroom lodges and were very impressed with the quality of accommodation and location. Set in beautiful gardens with no major noise from nearby roads. The lodge itself has been maintained to a high standard and had plenty of space for two adults and two boisterous boys'

Arrived early but got sorted no problem, Shown the lodge we were in and it was gorgeous, bags of room, comfy, everything you need for a self service holiday. Kitchen with all the equipment you would have at home, e.g. cooker, dishwasher, washer etc. Brilliant. Three bedrooms were downstairs as you walk in through the front door, main bedroom has private bath, shower toilet and washbasin, the other two have a shower, toilet etc that they share. Ideal as a base for visiting all of Cornwall. A balcony overlooking the grounds is ideal for relaxing. Never tried the restaurant but told by other people staying there that the food was very good. would certainly go again!

We stayed for 2 nights for a mini-break. Hotel is in a great location. We visited the Eden Project & The Lost Gardens of Heligan. Both were 10-15 mins away.

Check in was quick and easy. All staff we encountered throughout our stay were friendly and helpful. We stayed the in Gwendolyn Room which was in the main building. It was nicely decorated, a good size and well equipped.

Booked 2 nights including a 3 course dinner on second night. Very stylish hotel, lovely big bedroom with balcony overlooking grounds, huge comfy bed, bath in room, very comfortable. The public rooms are well decorated and the staff welcoming, we were so comfortable that we stayed in and ordered from the bar menu on our first night, enjoyable food well priced. The spa and pool were clean and looked good, enjoyed the steam room, rainforest showers and sauna although thought the bubble pool was too cool to sit in- a shame, we didn't book any treatments. Our evening dinner was really enjoyable, our choice from the menu, a good wine list and well served, the staff made us feel welcome. Thankfully the background music was at just the correct level- well done on getting that right! Very happy to recommend staying here, in fact we will probably go back, there are also self catering lodges which the staff were happy to show us around.

When my husband and I arrived we were blown away by the setting of the hotel in approximately 42 acres. The long driveway led us to two ample sized carparks, a stones throw from the hotel. The reception, whilst small was inviting and beautifully decorated.
The staff were all helpful and suggested we have a drink in the bar as we had turned up early and our room was not yet ready.

We had two beautifully presented gin and tonics which were very reasonable priced. Once our room was ready we were directed where to go and were pleased that as requested we were given a room away from stairs, lifts and other potentially noisy areas. We were staggered by the size of the room and balcony, the view of the latter being over the estate which was beautiful. The room was beautifully decorated and spotless. Perfect tea and coffee making facilities and a lovely bathroom with a huge bath and shower.

As we wanted privacy we decided to have our breakfast in our room both mornings and room service in the evenings The choice was perfect and the food fresh, locally sourced and lovely and hot. We struggled to finish our meals but only because the portions were very generous!

The location was perfect for the Eden Project, just 10 minutes away. Also very close to Charlestown, a beautiful historic visitor attraction with a lovely museum and super refreshment options. A must for a visit.

The spa was super, the staff so welcoming and helpful. Lovely steam and heat room, bubble pool and an affinity swimming pool. The perfect way to end a day after sightseeing. Lots of treatments available which we will try next time when we have more time.

Overall a very relaxing hotel and location which certainly did me and my husband the world of good. Thank you to all the staff for making our stay simply perfect.
