Set amongst 93 acres of woodland and parkland bordering the South Downs National Park, your hound is going to love you very much for opting to stay at this five-star hotel. You'll be rather pleased yourself, when you see its divine bedrooms and suites and two award-winning restaurants, al fresco dining, afternoon tea terrace and billiards bar. You're not far from the lovely Sussex coast either, should Rover fancy a dip in the sea. Pets are provided with a welcome package upon arrival including a bed, food and water bowls. Dogs are also welcome to dine with guests in the Great Hall.
Long established as a foodie haven – a dining pub with rooms - and heavy with plaudits from critics up and down Britain, the Felin Fach, close to the book town of Hay-on-Wye, is wonderfully unpretentious. While serving up some of the best grub you could ever wish to put to your lips, no one minds at all if your dog wants to be there too. The owners, dog owners themselves, say they are as happy to welcome dogs as guests – they can sleep in guests' rooms and patter around the bar all they like. Mention when you book and you'll get Table 11 or the tack room. We can't think of a more welcoming attitude than that!
Run by the Chapman family for 65 years, the Castle is a Taunton institution. It has won a host of awards for its great food and welcoming hospitality – and that extends to dogs, of course (£15 extra). Don't miss the much talked about brasserie BRAZZ with its passion for provenance and family friendliness. There's also fine dining in the Castle Bow, with local produce served up by head chef Liam Finnegan (past chefs include Gary Rhodes and Phil Vickery.)
This luxury country house hotel is surrounded by miles of footpaths and trails – just ideal for energetic dogs and their owners. A range of dog-friendly services are available including bowls, blankets, edible treats, and even dog sitting can be organised. Eateries include the award-winning Burlington restaurant as well as The Devonshire Brasserie and Bar. Guests also enjoy use of the Devonshire Health Barn which offers a range of spa treatments, as well as having a pool, Jacuzzi, plunge pool, gym and a tennis court. Dogs are welcome to stay in the bedroom too for £10 per dog.
Welcome at the hotel, in the garden and bedroom, dogs staying at The Nare, on Cornwall's Roseland Peninsula, are treated just as well as guests. Whilst most opt for their own table d'hôte menu for dinner, there's also an à la carte menu to choose from and the chef will happily cater for special canine dietary requirements. The options for walks and swims are endless, with the luxury country house hotel situated in National Trust land right next to the South West Coastal Path. Or simply let them scamper about on the sand; the hotel overlooks Carne Beach, where dogs can run freely during the winter, spring and autumn months although owners are asked to keep dogs on leads during the daytime in the summer. If your four-legged friend is more working dog than pampered pooch, however, there is a self-catering stay in the hotel's kennels, for which there is no charge. A one-night stay costs from £16 per dog; working dogs stay for free.
Dogs are not so much tolerated as positively loved and adored at Broadoaks. This stunning Lake District retreat boasts all the elegance and tradition a of a country house, all the style of a contemporary boutique hotel yet has a super friendly atmosphere, headed up by the hotel's cockapoo Molly herself. All of the three garden suites and the main suite are dog-friendly (look for the paw symbols online) and any dog over 12 months is welcome and will receive a pack of treats and personal menu on arrival.
