Britain's Finest in conversation with The Devonshire Arms Hotel

What do you think makes a stay at The Devonshire Arms Hotel unique?

Set at the gateway to the 30,000-acre Bolton Abbey Estate, The Devonshire Arms Hotel offers exceptional access to all the Yorkshire Dales have to offer.

Built in the 17th century, The Devonshire Arms became part of the Bolton Abbey Estate in 1753 under the 4th Duke of Devonshire. It was the 5th Duke who shaped the estate’s legacy, creating miles of footpaths to showcase the estate’s beauty.

Escape to one of the 40 comfortable and thoughtfully designed bedrooms.

The hotel spans two wings, each with a distinct character. The old wing offers traditional rooms with period features and four-poster beds, while the contemporary rooms in the new wing look out over the estate.

Tell us more about the rooms and facilities at The Devonshire Arms Hotel?

The 40 rooms offer the perfect base for an escape into the rural beauty of the Yorkshire Dales. Designed with luxury and comfort in mind, each room includes all of the amenities you’d expect from a superior hotel.

Housed in an ancient barn, adjacent to the hotel, The Devonshire Spa is one of the most exclusive retreats in the county. With wonderful spaces, an expert team of staff, and the tranquility of the Dales on your doorstep, it’s a spa you’ll want to return to time and time again.

At The Devonshire Spa, there are four generously-sized therapy rooms, an indoor swimming pool, plus a relaxation space and lounge with views over the gorgeous countryside. Spa access is complimentary for hotel residents and can also enhance their stay with a spa experience, combining luxurious treatments with extended spa access.

Can you suggest any activities or things to do while staying in the Skipton area?

Skipton is the southern gateway to the Dales and, historically, grew wealthy as a trading centre for sheep and wool; its cobbled streets and aged buildings give the small town a friendly atmosphere. Skipton Castle, parish church, and the high-street market are the key components of what makes this nostalgic town special. Small shops populate the alleyways and passages between the tofts and crofts (former narrow landholdings); guests will also find cosy cafes, inns, and courtyards. This all happens alongside the Leeds/Liverpool canal where boats frequently pass and tourists take advantage of the picturesque landscape.

There are miles of footpaths and cycleways to be enjoyed in the Yorkshire Dales, as well as nearby market towns of Ilkley and Harrogate for those looking for somewhere new to explore.

Where can guests enjoy food and drink?

The Devonshire Arms Hotel turns dining into an experience. You’ll enjoy fresh local produce, top-class cooking, and gorgeous surroundings. The Garden Room Restaurant offers delicious modern cuisine, often with a quirky twist and imaginative flavours, whilst making the most of the abundance of local producers.

The Brasserie is also popular. It offers a seasonally inspired menu of dishes, including fish, pasta, and grilled meats such as melt-in-the-mouth, locally reared, and aged steaks. The convivial atmosphere makes it a popular option for groups of friends and families.

Most ingredients are sourced locally, with fresh ingredients such as herbs, vegetables, fruits and edible flowers, harvested from the hotel’s Kitchen Garden, and produce farmed on the surrounding Estate.

Other Information

Dogs are welcome at the hotel, guests and their four-legged friend can simply enjoy the laid-back country house atmosphere and extensive walks on the estate, immediately accessible from the hotel along with a small range of extra dog friendly hotel facilities.
