Can you suggest any activities or things to do while staying in the Skipton area?
Skipton is the southern gateway to the Dales and, historically, grew wealthy as a trading centre for sheep and wool; its cobbled streets and aged buildings give the small town a friendly atmosphere. Skipton Castle, parish church, and the high-street market are the key components of what makes this nostalgic town special. Small shops populate the alleyways and passages between the tofts and crofts (former narrow landholdings); guests will also find cosy cafes, inns, and courtyards. This all happens alongside the Leeds/Liverpool canal where boats frequently pass and tourists take advantage of the picturesque landscape.
There are miles of footpaths and cycleways to be enjoyed in the Yorkshire Dales, as well as nearby market towns of Ilkley and Harrogate for those looking for somewhere new to explore.
Where can guests enjoy food and drink?
The Devonshire Arms Hotel & Spa turns dining into an experience. You’ll enjoy fresh local produce, top-class cooking, and gorgeous surroundings. The Garden Room Restaurant has been awarded 2 AA rosettes for its delicious modern cuisine, often with a quirky twist and imaginative flavours, whilst making the most of the abundance of local artisan producers.
The Brasserie is also popular, a one AA rosette rating and a seasonally-inspired menu of dishes including fish, pasta and grilled meats such as melt-in-the-mouth, locally reared and aged steaks. The convivial atmosphere makes it a popular option for groups of friends and families.
Most ingredients are sourced locally, with fresh ingredients such as herbs, vegetables, fruits and edible flowers, harvested from the hotel’s Kitchen Garden, and produce farmed on the surrounding Estate.
