Gleneages is not just for golfers, it's for gourmets too. Named after its chef (the most highly lauded in Scotland), Andrew Fairlie is probably the finest dining experience available north of the boarder. A recent refurbishment has transformed a rather grand dining room into an altogether more intimate restaurant with acres of leaf patterned beige fabric banquettes and seats. An oil painting of the chef watches over you as you tuck into the “menu degustation” that begins with Ballottine of Foie Gras with Peach Toasts and ends five courses later with Carpaccio of Pineapple Coconut Parfait. Go a la carte if you want to try the signature lobster smoked over whisky barrels and served with lime butter sauce.
