Such is the historic importance of this country house hotel which partly dates back to the 13th century, that it has now passed into the hand of the National Trust. But those that care just as much about great food and drink as they do heritage should beat a path to the door of this relaxed contemporary bistro. Think cream walls, black and white framed photos and bare table tops with a similarly laid back menu. Start with fishcakes and aioli followed by a very Welsh combination of braised lamb shank with leek and potato mash with a tomato and rosemary sauce. Things get even more casual with a selection of soup, 'make your own' salad and sandwiches including smoked salmon and dill crème fraiche panini. Bodysgallen was awarded 'AA Hotel of the Year for Wales 2012-13'.
