TEN OF THE BEST HOTELS WITH A VIEW

Hands up who's booked a room in a posh hotel only to fling open the curtains and find yourself gazing at a car park or fire escape. Gutted. To ensure you're only ever looking at beautiful lochs, lakes, sea, gardens, rivers or rolling countryside, here are my top ten favourite hotels with a view to thrill.
Storrs Hall Hotel

This 30-room Georgian mansion set on the shores of Lake Windermere gets our vote when it comes to a holiday to remember in the Lake District. You can see the lake and mountains from the majority of rooms, and the 17-acre garden isn't exactly an eyesore. The décor is contemporary and each room has been individually designed and decorated. Which adds to a romantic vibe, plus there's a restaurant you'll want to dress up for.

Two Bridges Hotel

You'll see people reach for their smartphone when they arrive, because it's one of those places that you can't help but Instagram from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave. Its setting in the heart of Dartmoor National Park next to the River Dart, rolling hills and a cluster of trees, is like something out of a fairy-tale. The interior is a little faded yet still magical (it's not going to win any minimalist design awards!) and while some of the 33 rooms have large ornate beds, all have fabulous views of the surrounding countryside. Locally sourced dishes like pheasant stew with rosemary gnocchi ensure the restaurant is buzzing, which, combined with the panorama, make this a must-visit hotel for a weekend break.
