If you're going on a family holiday, for a perfect time away it's good to choose accommodation that is near really great activities for kids. You may have selected the best accommodation in the world for your next break, but if the nearest fun children's distraction is a long drive away, it can be tiring for little ones. Fortunately, Britain is peppered with a wealth of fantastic children's activities, from groundbreaking museums to awesome theme parks, and we include a pick of some of the best accommodation to access a range of them here.
The Queens

Great for: The Royal Armouries Museum. Leeds is a great base for the family to explore the delights of Yorkshire, with the glorious countryside on your doorstep and a huge choice of eateries and attractions within the city itself. The Queens is a swish historic Art Deco Grade II listed building revamped right into the 21st century, bang in the city centre. Nearby is the Royal Armouries Museum, containing the UK's national arms and armour collection including warriors' weapons from early medieval knights to the modern-day soldier.

Cornwall Lodges @ The Cornwall Hotel, Spa & Estate

Great for: Kidzworld. Kids as well as adults will love these self-catering properties - especially with the proximity of great beaches in the area. The two- and three-bedroom houses feature balconies, French windows and a number of comforts. When the family needs a change from coastal walks and water sports, Kidzworld will immerse the children in such attractions as a laser shooting combat game, a 12 metre high Skytrail, a digi climbing wall that speaks to you, dodgems, mini golf, an indoor ball pit, giant slides and more.

Aikenshill House

Great for: Tolbooth Museum. Set in its own attractive grounds, this splendid farmhouse B&B overlooks the dunes of Balmedie beach. Despite its tranquil rural situation, it's just minutes from Aberdeen city centre. A highlight here would undoubtedly be a visit to the Tolbooth Museum, which is one of the best-preserved 17th century jails in the country. The exhibition brings to life the brutal life for prisoners in years gone by. Children will be both appalled and inspired by such gory sights as the guillotine, torture implements and grim cells.

Moor Hall Hotel & Spa

Great for: Drayton Manor Theme Park. For a bit of pampered luxury head for Moor Hall Hotel and Spa, which features comfortable family rooms with flatscreen tv, an inviting indoor pool that the kids will love, as well as the luxurious spa where the aduts can enjoy some precious relaxing ‘me' time. Close by is Drayton Manor theme park, with plenty of great rides and attractions set within a large park with lakes. If you're brave enough, try Apocalypse, the world's first stand-up tower drop, and Shockwave, Europe's only stand-up rollercoaster. Younger ones will love the zoo and Thomas the Tank Engine rides.
