The brine was 10 times stronger than seawater, however it wasn't until the 19th century that the benefits of brine baths were fully appreciated. Discover Hanbury Hall, a wonderful tribute of the Georgian era Hanbury Hall, in the William and Mary style, was completed in 1701. The staircase, leading from the dark panelled hall, has its walls covered with murals by Sir James Thornhill. In the dining room, which still has its original ceiling, the fireplace is surrounded by fine Rococo work and there are more murals by Thornhill.
