Explore the Beautiful Biddulph Grange Gardens

James Bateman’s Victorian Biddulph Grange Gardens near Stoke-on-Trent was beautifully restored by the National Trust and the result is a day out that allows you to journey the world via its plants. The garden has a number of themed areas so you will find yourself wandering from the Chinese Temple to the Egyptian Court and onto the Pinetum, the Dahlia Walk and the Himalayan Glen. There are tunnels, passageways and undulating paths that weave through this lovely bucolic plot and lead you to some beautiful sights. Look out for the gorgeous rhododendrons in late spring, the summer collection of herbaceous plants in Mrs Bateman’s garden and the sublime autumnal Dahlia Walk. Travel through time in the Geology Gallery where the Creation story has been recreated and study Bateman’s reconciliation of geology and theology.

"The National Trust always comes up trumps when it comes to providing fabulous places for a country stroll and Biddulph Grange is no exception. The organisation restored this Victorian garden in Stoke on Trent and today you have a range of areas to peruse, from the Egyptian Court to the Chinese Temple and the Dahlia Walk (just divine at this time of year) to the Himalayan Glen. Kids love the tunnels and pathways that wind around the property and there are loads of trails and activities for them to get stuck into as well. The tea shop, of course, is a must (once you have earned it, of course!)."
