Overview

Chiltern Open Air Museum is an outdoor Museum with over 30 rescued and reconstructed historic buildings set within 45 acres of beautiful countryside. Seven of the Museum's historic buildings are licensed for civil ceremonies including an Iron Age roundhouse, red tin chapel, Victorian toll house and three of the Museum's barns.

What makes Chiltern Open Air Museum a unique wedding venue?

The buildings at the Museum are very unique. The Iron Age roundhouse is believed to be the only roundhouse in the country that is licensed for civil ceremonies. Hire of the Museum's barn for wedding receptions is on a dry hire basis only. There are no restrictions on suppliers and no corkage fees, allowing you to plan a wedding suited to your own style. The Museum's Skippings Barn has additional space to hire and put up an additional marquee if desired. The Museum's collection of historic buildings and farm animals provide a great backdrop for some great, quirky wedding photographs.

What is a typical wedding like at Chiltern Open Air Museum?

There is no typical wedding at the Museum. Couples create their own wedding and choose their own suppliers based on their own style and budget. Each building can be hired separately, or as part of a combined package to increase capacity.

The Museum offers a range of small intimate weddings suited to a lower budget or large festival style weddings. They offer a 'build your own package' based on each couples individual requirements.

What Extra facilities does Chiltern Open Air Museum have to assist couples to have the perfect day?

The Museum has an electric golf buggy and staff are happy to drive the wedding couple through the site along with less able guests. The Museum's hedgerows are lit with fairy-lights and there are a couple of patio heaters provided. Drinks packages, cream teas and outdoor games hire can all be added on to your wedding booking.
