Overview

Mount Barker B&B is situated in Grantown on Spey, in the scenic Cairngorms National Park, in the Highlands of Scotland. Opened in May 2018, it offers two luxurious en-suite bedrooms and a guest lounge with a woodburning stove. A varied breakfast menu caters for vegetarians and for those who enjoy a gluten free diet.

What makes a stay at Mount Barker Bed and Breakfast unique?

Mount Barker B&B is a beautiful, detached, Victorian house, which has been sympathetically refurbished to a high standard for the comfort and convenience of guests. Guests will be greeted with a complimentary drink of their choice in their own lounge, and if the weather dictates, often by a roaring log fire. They will then be shown to their room, where they will be amazed at the decor, the chandeliers and the furnishings. Relax, unwind and feel at home in wonderfully peaceful surroundings.

What are the rooms and facilities on offer at Mount Barker Bed and Breakfast?

Mount Barker B&B has two luxurious, double aspect, ensuite bedrooms with king size beds. The rooms, Marr and Henderson, were named after pioneering NHS doctors who owned the house in the 1930s and 40s. Both rooms have a flat-screen TV and tea and coffee making facilities. The well-appointed bathrooms have underfloor heating, heated towel rails and exquisite, fine fragrance bath and body products from Noble Isle. Both bedrooms have their own individual charm. The Marr room is tucked away in a secluded part of the house, with a seperate dressing room with views across Grantown and the Cairngorm mountains in the far distance. The Henderson room is equally bright and airy, with views over the Cromdale Hills.

What can guests enjoy when staying in the Grantown-on-Spey area?

Mount Barker is close to the River Spey, which is famous throughout the world for its salmon fishing, but perhaps more so, for its fine Speyside Whiskies. The Cairngorms National Park offers a whole range of activities for outdoor enthusiasts including golfing, fishing, hunting, shooting, walking, climbing, mountain biking, kayaking, bird watching and of course, skiing in the winter months. Throughout the year, there are numerous organised events, festivals and exhibitions, such as the Speyside whisky festival, Highland games, agricultural shows, music festivals, and many more attractions.

Where can guests enjoy food and drink?

At Mount Barker, breakfast is served at a round table in the morning room, overlooking the large front lawn. Guests can tuck into a full cooked Scottish breakfast using locally sourced produce or choose a variety of cooked items as well as fresh fruits and yogurts and an endless supply of toast, tea and coffee. In the evening, they can stroll out into the High Street to the many restaurants, cafes, bars and Highland hotels which are open to non-residents for evening meals.

The rooms are beyond magnificent, truly stunning. Its perfectly located, beautiful and the hosts are wonderful people. We visited early May and were amongst the first guests to ever stay at this gorgeously renovated Victorian house. The rooms were amongst the best we have ever stayed in, the breakfast was great and the hosts assisted us with all our needs. In just two days we really felt at home in Mount Barker.

Very well appointed and beautifully decorated, Mount Barker is a splendid overnight stay which exceeded our expectations. The hosts, Karen and Alick, were very welcoming and helpful. A super breakfast with gluten-free options was much appreciated. Very much looking forward to a second stay.

Mt Barker is beautifully appointed and extremely well situated. The hosts were beyond wonderful. The room was very comfortable and beautifully decorated as was the bathroom. Set in pretty grounds away from the Main Street. Very relaxing.

Thank you, really, for taking such good care of us. This is one B&B we will remember - in the best way. And will recommend to friends, and hope to come back.
