Overview

Halifax Golf Club is located in the heart of the beautiful Ogden Moors. It's the premier golf club in Halifax and one of the finest in West Yorkshire. It was originally designed by 5 times Open Champion, James Braid, and later altered by Dr. Alister MacKenzie, designer of Augusta National, home of The Masters.

What style is the course at Halifax Golf Club?

It's an 18 hole part heathland, part moorland golf course. The layout of the course has stayed largely as it was originally designed, apart from the alterations made by Dr Alister MacKenzie, back in 1912.

What is the feature hole?

The 17th is a wonderful golf hole - depending on the weather and the wind, it can be anything from a PW to a Driver. The tee box sits right at the top of the course, just prior to making the way back down to 'earth' - it's an unexpected treat of a hole and something to look forward to while playing one's way through the round.

What sort of course features can the player expect?

A unique course and a test of golf that flows up, through and back over the top of the Ogden Valley.

Reviews

What a fantastic golf course. Obviously I played well but even if I hadn't the views would have been worth it. After playing the course I was amazed at how little we had paid for Green fees. The 17th is one of the most amazing par threes I have ever played. Will definitely be returning. The welcome in the club house was very friendly and the food couldn't be faulted. The club house itself was splendid with traditional honours boards going back over 100 years. Even the Captains photos go back to the original Captain in 1895. Too many clubs these days are the Same plastic copies of each other not this one it is unique. Ten out of ten.

This course was fantastic. We played on a bright warm day and the moorland and views were spectacular. The course winds it's way up the valley crossing streams until you arrive on a plateau for the last few holes. For the par 3 17th you hit a shot down into the valley below. The food was good quality and value for money and we'll definitely be back!

Great moorland course which I've played on a few occasions now. Each time the wind and elements provide a different challenge. The penultimate hole is sheer drop down to the 17th green. This time I played a 9 iron where as the last time I hit a 4 iron. A superb varying course which tests golfers of all abilities.
