The Old Buttress at Rotherhope Towers

Self Catering

The Old Buttress, located near Alston in Cumbria, was renovated in 2021 and is now a cosy annexe accommodation for up to two guests. Even on the wettest of days, the spacious kitchen and open-plan living area with a wood burning stove welcome cyclists and walkers. There is a covered utility area with a separate washing machine and tumble dryer, which is ideal for drying off and storing muddy boots and coats after a day of outdoor activities. The Old Buttress has a fantastic bedroom with a king-size bed and a balcony with seating for two, where you can take in the panoramic views or stargaze on a clear summer night. The enclosed garden outside has views of rolling green hills and working farmland. Guests can sit back and unwind while listening to the distant trickle of the stream that runs through the garden.

What is the capacity for The Old Buttress at Rotherhope Towers?

The Old Buttress sleeps two guests in a king-sized bedroom. One well-behaved dog is also welcome at a small additional charge. The garden is enclosed, but not 100% secure, so please supervise your dog at all times.

What can guests enjoy when staying in the Alston area?

Alston is a medieaval town and one of the highest market settlements in England. Its cobblestone lanes feature an abundance of shopping, rich history, and spectacular views of the North Pennines. There are several fantastic walking trails for people looking for a walking adventure. An OS map of the area can be found in the coffee table drawer. Railway enthusiasts will enjoy a visit to the South Tynedale Railway, England's highest narrow-gauge railway. Ashgill Force is a must-see for nature lovers. The stunning cascading streams reaching 17 metres high are only four miles from Alston.

Where can guests enjoy food and drink?

Visitors may enjoy a variety of eateries in the market town itself. The Cane Workshop, located in the town centre at Stokoe House, produces award-winning marmalade, preserves, and chutney. Breakfast or lunch at Saddlers at the top of the town is highly recommended by the owners for those wishing to enjoy some of the local culinary pleasures. Food by Angela is a local, ready-to-eat meal service that will happily deliver to The Old Buttress for your convenience.
