Overview

On a quiet road between Elton and Youlgreave is one of just six farmhouses in Gratton's rural parish. It benefits from untouched countryside, which is popular with walkers and mountain bikers, yet is only 6 miles from Bakewell and Matlock.

What is the capacity for The Barn @ Dale End House?

The Barn can be booked in its entirety on a self-catering basis for groups of 8. The internal layout has been thoughtfully designed so that smaller groups [say 4-6], can stay at The Barn, paying only for the number of rooms used. The Barn comprises four double en suite rooms with two of the rooms fitted with super king-sized beds which can separate into 2 singles if required. The other 2 rooms have king-sized beds. There is a very large open plan lounge/dining area with a full-height beamed ceiling with stunning views down to the valley to distant farmhouses and hills. There are three large sofas and a .long dining table which easily accommodates 10 - perfect for larger groups.

What can guests enjoy when staying in the Bakewell area?

Bakewell, home of Bakewell Pudding and many antique shops, cafes, and craft stores, is the nearest town. If you are more interested in visiting historic homes, then there is two of the best on the doorstep - eight miles will take you to  Chatsworth House and just six to Hadhon Hall. The surrounding area is home to some of the best walking, mountain biking and climbing in the country and all straight from the front door.

Where can guests enjoy food and drink?

Some guests choose to eat out in the many varied pubs and restaurants this part of the Peak District has to offer. If you are in Bakewell and fancy a coffee and a cake, one of your hosts' favourites is The Coffee Shop run by friends and Gratton neighbours Maggie and Phil.

Arrival information & directions

Address: Dale End House, Gratton Lane, Bakewell, Derbyshire, BakewellDe45 1ln, United Kingdom

Pass through Elton and follow the narrow lane down into the valley which opens up in front of you. This is Gratton Lane. After around a mile you will pass a bungalow and then a cottage on your right, then Dale End Farm on the right and a house on your left, and then a telephone box on the left at the bottom of the dale. This is Dale End. The house is the first on the left after the telephone box. You will see a pair of conical gate posts, drive between these and upto the house. If you get to the Old Cheese Factory, you've gone too far. Turnaround, Dale End House is then the first on the right.
