Overview

Britain's Finest in conversation with Talehay Holiday Cottages

What do you think makes a stay at Talehay Holiday Cottages unique?

Talehay Farmhouse and cottages are in Southeast Cornwall close to the historic fishing towns of Looe and Fowey and the beautiful fishing village of Polperro as well as their many beaches. Talehay is a grade 2 listed Cornish farmhouse with its origins in the 15th century. It is approached down a quiet country lane and surrounded by beautiful open countryside yet still less than 15 minutes’ drive from stunning beaches/bays at Talland Bay, Lantic Bay, Lansallos, Lantivet and Palace coves. The converted stone-built cottages and farmhouse retain much character and provide very well specified and tastefully furnished accommodation around a central courtyard. The cottages are situated in spacious communal gardens with lawned areas, ideal for picnics, barbecues and safe for children to play. To the rear of the main house is a further three and a half acres of fully enclosed meadow which is also available for guest’s recreational use.

Can you suggest any activities or things to do while staying in the Looe area?

A short drive from Talehay you have access to some of Cornwall’s most spectacular scenery; the nearby Cornish coastline boasts gentle stretches at Talland Bay, dramatic headlands at Lantic Bay and Polruan, a sheltered estuary at Fowey, historic quintessentially Cornish fishing harbours at Looe and Polperro and intimate coves at Lansallos, Lantivet and Lantic Bays.  The ruggedness of Bodmin Moor is also a short drive from Talehay. An area of Outstanding Natural Beauty the top of Roughtor and Brown Willy being the 2 highest points in Cornwall. The Cheesewring and Sharp Tor at Minions village along with the woodland walk at Golitha falls are less than 30 minutes’ drive. Famous gardens at Eden and Lost gardens of Heligan are in easy striking distance.

For those looking for a more action packed itinerary there is Adrenalin Quarry at Liskeard, Kayaking in Fowey and deep sea fishing at Looe.

Where can guests enjoy food and drink?

The options are too numerous to mention all. However the Jubilee Inn in Pelynt village for simple pub fair is a 25 minute walk or 3 minute drive. Enjoy many outstanding pubs and restaurant all within an easy drive. To name but a few, The Salutation in Looe, The Blue Peter and The 3 Pilchards in Polperro are particular favourites of Talehay. Favourite restaurants include The Sardine Factory and Yamas in Looe, Talland Bay Hotel at Talland Bay, Couches Great House in Polperro and Sunny Spice Indian and Narla by Charlie Waters in Fowey.

What is the capacity for Talehay Holiday Cottages?

The cottages sleep 2 – 4 persons and have an enclosed communal garden as well as use of a 3-acre paddock for recreational use. There are four cottages: The Lodge (Sleeps 2 + Cot/Z Bed) is a bright spacious open plan studio cottage with separate bathroom and a touch of luxury, Barn cottage (Sleeps 2 + Cot/Z Bed) provides a lounge/diner and kitchen at ground floor and a double bedroom, Coach cottage (Sleeps 2 + Cot/Z Bed) provides accommodation all on one level including double bedroom with on suite and Owl cottage (Sleeps 4) which provides a lounge/diner and kitchen at ground floor and a double bedroom and twin room at first floor.
