What do you think makes a stay at High Ridge Barn unique?
High Ridge Barn is superbly equipped to provide guests with everything they need during their stay. The kitchen has been described (by a chef) as being equipped to a professional standard with everything from herb scissors, Wusthof steak knives and corn-on-the-cob forks to a Magimix food processor.
Crisp white waffle bathrobes, organic shower/bath products, and a selection of slippers, slides, and outdoor shoes are provided. The large Scandi Harvia wood-burning sauna can be prepared for guests fancying a nice bit of 'llöyly' after a bracing local walk.
The Barn is genuinely dog-friendly, with size/breed-appropriate beds, towels, throws, bowls, treats, and toys. There is a wonderful dog-pampering cabin equipped with a hydraulic scissor lift dog bath (plus a walk-up ramp for older dogs) and a hot water shower with lovely almond, organic pet shampoo. The quiet pet hairdryer and full grooming tool set will give your canine companions a marvellous makeover.
Can you suggest any activities or things to do while staying in the Rushton Spencer area?
Great walks from the door include the famous Lud's Church spooky chasm, and the gritstone ridge called the Roaches provides stunning views across the high moors to the north and the wooded Dane valley to the south.
Water sports enthusiasts can sail, kayak, or paddleboard at both local pretty reservoirs (all kit and instruction provided), and fishing for trout or carp is available just a stone's throw from the Barn.
There are accredited climbing schools with excellent tutors on Hen Cloud at the western end of the Roaches, and if you have the urge to throw an axe, shoot an arrow, or ride a Segway, Madrenaline is just a mile or two from the Barn.
Ice cream fans should head to the nearby Blaze Farm, where they make dozens of different flavours of creamy ice cream. Children can enjoy meeting the farm animals and petting them.
The renowned artisan brewery at Wincle brews a superb selection of ales and runs regular tasting tours on-site.
Where can guests enjoy food and drink?
Should you not wish to cook in High Ridge Barn's fully equipped kitchen, there is a good selection of restaurants in the nearby towns of Leek (a 15-minute drive) and Macclesfield (a 15-minute drive), including Thai, Indian, Chinese, and fish and chips.
The Lazy Trout pub and restaurant in Meerbrook (an 11-minute drive) also serves excellent food and is dog-friendly. The Ship Inn pub in Wincle (a 5-minute drive or a 1.7-mile stroll) is also dog-friendly and serves a good selection of snacks and bar food.
