Regular Tudor war re-enactments take place here, and the hall has been on a number of television shows. Saffron Walden is a beautiful Essex town with medieval half-timbered buildings and even a set of village stocks. There are markets here every Tuesday and Saturday, as well as a ruined castle to explore. If you’d like to get out and about in the countryside, you can’t go wrong with the Flitch Way. Part of the national cycle route, the path is traffic-free for most of its 15 miles.
