Overview

Chesthill House is the principal sporting lodge on South Chesthill Estate, but there is also Chesthill House Annex and Gardener's Cottage. These are also bookable via this website.

Chesthill House sleeps up to 16.  With COVID restrictions in 2020, the house can be split into the main house (sleeps 8 - 11) and the rear annex (sleeps 4-7) which can be booked together.  In total there are 7 twin bedrooms and 1 single, plus an en-suite bedsit on the ground floor which is normally used for a cook/chef.  4 of the twins are en-suite (with baths and showers), and the remaining 4 bedrooms share 1 bathroom between 2 adjacent bedrooms (and 2 of the 4 have basins).  The dining table seats 12 comfortably so it is recommended to limit adults to that number, with the other rooms available for children, however the table can be extended to 14 if required.

The ground floor includes the main entrance hall, sitting room with a TV, a bright spacious drawing room with a CD player and radio, small study and large dining room. There is a drying room, cloakroom with wc, and gun room with a secure cabinet. Wireless broadband internet is available on the ground floor, but the speeds can be slow. There's a games room with snooker, table tennis, darts and a stage for budding child actors!

The lodge is let on a fully furnished basis including all linen and towels. Daily housekeeping is provided by Liz the housekeeper and it is recommended that a cook be employed (we can recommend a good agency). Ainster, the estate keeper, will be on standby to help you with all outdoor activities.

House-trained dogs are allowed, but downstairs only.  Dogs that might cause any damage should be kept in the kennels in the stables in the yard, or in private cars.

Check in: from 4.00pm.  Check out: by 10.00am.

Directions:

1) From Edinburgh airport and the south, aim for the Forth Road Bridge and then the M90 (easy sign-posts from the airport) then take the A9 towards Inverness. 2) Exit off the A9 north of Perth at Ballinluig and head west to Aberfeldy along the A827. 3) Before leaving Aberfeldy turn right at the crossroads onto the B846. 4) Head through Weem, past Dull, and a couple of miles later turn left at Coshieville towards Fortingall (signposted). 5) Go through Fortingall and turn right after 300 yards into Glen Lyon (signposted). 6) Chesthill is c.2 ½ miles along Glen Lyon. Pass a white cottage by the road on the right with antlers above the door, and then pass the deer fence on the right, and the gate saying ‘North Chesthill’. Pass the suspension bridge on your left (the river gets very close to the road at this point). Then there is a green box suspended on the wall on your right. The turning into the property's drive, where there are two stone gate posts, is 150 yards beyond the green box on the right as the road bends to the left, and there's a small black sign with white writing saying Chesthill House.

Driving or flying? Allow 1 ½ hour from Edinburgh.

Getting the train? The nearest station is Dunkeld (30 mins). Birnam Autocabs: 01350 728828. Order in advance.
