The Sun Inn is a coaching inn with a bar, dining room, lounge and guest rooms. It serves our immediate community whether it is for just drinks or food and provides a refuge for travellers seeking a one night stay on business or a short break away from it all. It has been privately owned and run since 2003.
Our food is fresh, seasonal and simple. The produce is sourced from local growers, farmers, fishermen and cheese makers. It has flair and imagination but is deeply rooted in traditional Italian rustic kitchens with the addition of a simple dishes and a bar board. Graze in the bar, feast in the dining room or take a picnic while you explore. Our menu varies throughout the month with produce off Mersea day boats, meat from rare breed animals, wild game in season and vegetables and fruit the morning they're picked. Buttermilk pudding with Eric's rhubarb, dark chocolate torte with Hadley's ice cream, our freshly baked bread before your meal. On Sundays a delicious roast is served alongside our full menu and a kid's menu or smaller portions are available at weekends and school holidays.
Our drinks list is lovingly put together after considered whittling down of numerous samples tasted and slurped from around the world. We seek wine of distinct flavour, of its place and made with respect for the vine
as well as the environment. We want to be excited by what we taste, discover nuances and subtleties rather than be whacked around the chops by fruit bombs or oak. The majority of our beer is from East Anglian brewers.
