Built up over 25 years of service the Tufton Arms is justly proud of it's longstanding reputation for running a noted restaurant in Appleby as well as a hotel. Menus have always offered something for everyone, but now with the emphasis on fresh fish delivered daily from Neve's fish suppliers in Fleetwood and the newly refurbished public areas there is a choice of both informal eating and the more formal restaurant surroundings. With many of the fish dishes designed for sharing, what better, fun way to relax with friends, family and a bottle of white wine is there? Sunday lunchtimes are still traditional and the restaurant has not abandoned their 25 year history of serving tender roast beef, carved at the table from a Victorian carving trolley. Long before food miles became fashionable, The Conservatory Restaurant has always had a policy of buying locally, provided that the quality of the produce measured up to their high expectations. Fortunately it always has, from Low Howgill Cumberland sausages for breakfast and Stephensons greengrocers opposite to The Appleby Creamery producing a range of cheeses with milk from local farms. The establishment also sources their own Grouse from Dufton Fell, pheasants and Venison from Dalemain. No restaurant in Appleby, Cumbria or anywhere else would be complete without a decent wine list and this one will not disappoint. Nigel Milsom has a lifelong passion for wine and our wine list continues to grow, especially with white wines to compliment the fish!
