The Angel Inn has a long and illustrious history. As the original gastropub, it has always led the way and done things differently. It seems perfectly appropriate that this legendary Yorkshire Dales establishment continues to break new ground. The arrival of Michael Wignall as chef patron put the tiny hamlet of Hetton firmly back on the culinary map.

The Angel Inn at Hetton is the UK’s original gastropub. For many years it has held the reputation of being the destination establishment in one of the most exquisite corners of the North Yorkshire Dales. Famous for its food as well as its warm, welcoming atmosphere - it has maintained a strong following among locals as well as with customers from all over the world.
What cuisine is on offer at The Angel Inn?
Two Michelin-starred chef Michael Wignall reimagined the pub’s offering and created a fabulous new menu for the 60-cover restaurant. The team’s plans to open a brand new fine-dining restaurant called Cove ensures that The Angel will become one of the UK’s must-visit destinations.
What is the signature dish at The Angel Inn?
Guests can enjoy locally sourced ingredients, such as Game and Fish, prepared by two-Michelin starred Chef, Michael Wignall. A favourite among the guests is the game terrine - a pressing of Yorkshire Dales Game, Duck Liver, muscat grapes, celery gel, parched peas with aged vinegar.
