This isn't your ordinary restaurant. You'll need to book ahead for one of the regular weekend events, but you'll want to make the effort as this is the dining room in a seventeenth-century farmhouse at campaigning TV chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's River Cottage HQ set in 60 acres of beautiful Devon countryside. The evening starts with a tractor and trailer ride down to the cottage where you're greeted with drinks and canapes. The four course meal is introduced by the chef who'll explain the provenance of the ingredients and how the meal has been prepared, then you tuck into simple rustic dishes such as five-root and bacon soup with cheddar and parsley followed by spiced confit pork belly, roast loin, crackling and creamy mash, and Apple-on-the-bottom crème brulee. River Cottage is also home to one of the UK's best cookery schools where you'll find courses from Meat Curing & Smoking to Bread Making and even Veg Cookery.
