The building dates from at least 1780, rebuilt in its current form around 1897 in brick and terracotta. It sits directly opposite Richmond station, which makes it the obvious first stop for anyone arriving for the rugby at Twickenham, with shuttle buses leaving from behind the pub on match days. The pub also gave its name to the Orange Tree Theatre, whose company was based upstairs for many years. Following a significant refurbishment, there are now 13 boutique bedrooms, an 80-cover dining room, and a bar that leans into its proximity to Richmond Park. Seasonal menus, a well-kept cellar, and good transport links in all directions.
