By bicycle: Charlbury is the nearest railway station to Minster Lovell, just seven miles away. It perches on the banks of the River Evenlode whereas Minster Lovell is beside the Windrush, so you’ll have to cross from one valley to the next to get there. But it’s an outstandingly pretty ride.

At the end of the station approach road, turn left, over the bridge. Continue up the hill – it’s a long climb, but there’s a bench at the top where you can catch your breath.

Take the first left onto a little country lane. This rollercoaster road is three miles of cycling fun – up and downhill with a new view around every bend. The green signs you’ll see mark the cottages belonging to the Cornbury Park estate.

Look out for the church spire in the distance, which marks the village of Leafield. When you finally emerge into Leafield, turn right, then left immediately after the church. Follow this winding road past cottages and farms until you reach a crossroads. This is the summit of the ride. Enjoy the ride along the hilltop until the glorious descent begins into Minster Lovell.
