Overview

Tucked away in the quiet village of Swynnerton, surrounded by rolling Staffordshire countryside, The Fitzherbert Arms is the kind of country pub you dream about discovering. Set on Lord Stafford’s estate and lovingly restored, it has all the hallmarks of a proper English inn – flickering fires, low beams, and the sort of welcome that makes you want to linger.

Inside, it strikes just the right balance between relaxed and refined. The menu leans into hearty, comforting classics – think rich pies, generous roasts and seasonal dishes that showcase local ingredients. Don’t leave without trying the ‘Fitz Mess’ – their take on an Eton Mess, and worth the journey in itself.

At the bar, you’re in expert hands. The Fitzherbert is quietly famous for its collection of over 30 ports, alongside a sharp edit of wines, local ales and perfectly kept pints. Whether you’re here for a slow Sunday lunch, a celebratory supper or just a quick drink by the fire, it never misses a beat.

And if one visit isn’t quite enough, the farmhouse next door has ten bedrooms for overnight stays – simple, stylish and surrounded by green fields. Wake up to birdsong, take your time over breakfast, and make the most of that blissfully unhurried pace.
