Overview

Originally opened as an alehouse in 1847, The Three Hills is a delightful 17th Century Grade II listed pub located in Bartlow, 14 miles from Cambridge and half an hour from Stansted Airport. With six en-suite luxury bedrooms, a two bedroom self contained flat and an award-winning restaurant The Three Hills is the perfect place to unwind. Wood burning stoves, underfloor heating and a beautiful garden with covered heated patio. Dogs and children welcome.

What makes a stay at The Three Hills unique?

Whether you are popping in for a beer by the fire, a cosy chat in the pub library, or a delicious meal from the à la carte menu you will always find a very warm welcome at The Three Hills. Being so close to Cambridge and Newmarket there are plenty of things to do and see, and staff are always happy to help plan your visit. Chilford Winery and Duxford are both close by, as is the lovely market town of Saffron Walden. Do bring your dog - there is some terrific walking to be had. Enjoy a night's stay in one of the award-winning bedrooms and really relax.

What food do you serve at The Three Hills?

The Three Hills offers a contemporary British menu focusing on locally sourced seasonal ingredients. Everything is made fresh by the wonderful team of chefs in this award-winning kitchen. In only four years of trading, The Three Hills has gained many accolades, including two AA rosettes, a Michelin Plate and a spot on the Estrella Damm Top 50 Gastropubs for two years in a row.

Does the chef at The Three Hills have a signature dish?

A firm favourite at The Three Hills is fish and chips - succulent battered hake, triple cooked chips, proper mushy peas, dill, and tartare sauce. On the restaurant side, a popular choice would be Moules Frites - a generous serving of fresh mussels in garlic, white wine, shallot, area, and parsley served with skinny fries.

Tell us more about the rooms and facilities at The Three Hills?

The Three Hills have six en-suite luxury bedrooms: 5 king-size doubles and one twin, all of which are also dog-friendly. For families or those wanting a bit more space The Three Hills also offers a two bedroom flat, complete with a fully equipped kitchen and comfortable sitting area. The bed in the main bedroom is king size, whilst the other is a queen. Whichever room you choose at The Three Hills expect to be pampered with Egyptian cotton sheets, goose down duvets, pocket sprung mattresses, White Company toiletries, Nespresso Coffee Machine and tea making facilities, a Roberts radio and huge fluffy towels. When you aren't in your room, relax in the snug/library with a cup of coffee and a good book, or enjoy a glass of wine on the south-facing patio in the beautifully landscaped garden.

Can you suggest any activities or things to do while staying in the Cambridge area?

Cambridge is a wonderful city for exploring on foot. Enjoy an afternoon on the river in a traditional punt, learning about the history of the colleges, or take a free walking tour. Visit the Fitzwilliam Museum or the University Botanic Gardens. Watch the racehorses on the Gallops in Newmarket, and enjoy the new Racehorse Museum. Take a tour of the local Chilford Hall Vineyard, only 5 minutes away by car. The Imperial War Museum is a firm favourite for families and doesn't forget Linton Zoo in the next-door village - a must if you have small children.

We stayed in one of the 4 rooms in the building opposite the pub. The bed was extremely comfortable and the quality of the bedlinen and pillows excellent too. The rooms are finished to a high standard and in the bathroom a quality finish and excellent shower. The garden area is lovely too with chickens, rabbits and guinea pigs. There is a lovely walk from the pub to the Roman burial ground also which is worth a visit. We found the staff there very pleasant and the place is professionally managed by Michelle who could not do enough to help out. Would definitely stay again and recommend if you after a good night's sleep !!
