Artist Residence Oxfordshire is an idyllic retreat in the heart of the English countryside, providing all the comfort and tranquility expected of the most romantic hotel in the land. This 16th-century inn has five luxurious bedrooms nestled under its cosy thatch and the grand Barn Suite in the farm outbuildings, each a calming combination of luxurious linens, bohemian styling and antique furnishings. Downstairs the Mr Hanbury's Mason Arms, designed in collaboration with artists The Connor Brothers, is a welcoming country pub, offset by surprising and delightful contemporary artworks. The dining room offers a sumptuous menu by Leon Smith, using meat and dairy from neighbouring farms and the best seasonal produce from our kitchen garden.
The pub has been included in the Michelin Eating Out in Pubs Guide 2017 and awarded 2 AA Rosettes for culinary excellence, whilst the hotel has been rated as a 5* inn.
Artist Residence Oxfordshire also has a Hotel and Restaurant:
Artist Residence Oxfordshire is part of the following Inspirations:
"This beautiful thatched Oxfordshire pub – formerly the Mason’s Arms - stood vacant for five years after charismatic entrepreneur Gerry Stonehill gave it up. Now it’s now been given new life and transformed by Charlotte and Justin of Artists Residence.
Neon decorations litter the bar, the walls are hung with photos of professional boxers and Charlotte’s enthusiastic choice of original art is everywhere. An illuminated sign over one of the fireplaces reads What Did I Do Last Night?
Upstairs the five bedrooms have sisal carpets, Nespresso machines, and jars of locally sourced sweets and savouries and funky scatter cushions. Beyond the main building there are two stable suites and more being built in 2018.
Artists Residence Oxfordshire has become a popular place for Londoners seeking a romantic weekend away. Its eclectic style makes for a zesty informality and its large open fireplace is a perfect place to nod off in front of after dinner."
"Artist Residence is a fun young company that specialises in taking over old buildings and transforming them in a cozy, bright, eclectic style with lots of neon. The mini-chain was named by its founder, Justin Salisbury who had brought in artist friends to help decorate his first B&B. Up until now the company has been essentially urban, starting in Brighton and expanding to Penzance and London but in 2017 Artist Residence took over The Mason Arms, a picture-perfect thatch-roofed pub in South Leigh, Oxfordshire.
This, the company’s latest Artist Residence, opened in May and proved a big success with couples who wanted a romantic getaway in one of its five colourful, slightly crazy bedrooms. Having a lovely traditional pub - with a massive open fire and traditional quiz nights - downstairs certainly helped, as did the dinner menu which mahors of locally sourced meat.
In 2018 Artist Residence Oxfordshire will be adding two more stable-block suites behind the pub and a further six rooms beyond that. Business is booming. In fact Artist Residence is hoping to open up in an old Bristol boot factory soon. Definitely a company to watch."

My wife and I were invited to attend one of the opening nights at the Artist Residence Oxford and having been to some of their other hotels, our expectations were high. However we were not disappointed!
The property is an old country pub with a lovely thatched roof located in a nice little village about 8 miles from Oxford City centre. It is clear that the property has been attentively restored and the Artist Residence have put there own unique twist on it. Throughout the decor is quirky but tasteful and the walls are covered in interesting artwork. This combination is a far way from how the place would have looked in the years gone by, but it really works. The rooms have all the original character but with modern luxury twists. We had a really comfy and relaxing nights rest.
There is a cosy pub area with giant fire places and the bar serves some interesting wines, beers and cocktails. There is also a cocktail bar and restaurant space. We experienced the 5 course tasting menu and really enjoyed every course, but the stand out course for me was the Lamb - perfectly cooked and so tasty! Hats off to the chef - the food here is not your average pub fare - this is serious foodie heaven, fresh produce, creative dishes but not over complicated and would give some London West End restaurants a run for their money.
Overall, a fabulous retreat and an amazing restaurant. But what brings all of it together are the staff. Everyone was so welcoming and attentive during our stay, they really couldn't do enough for you. A number of the staff we spoke to were local and had a real passion and appreciation for what they had created. It turns out the locals all campaigned to save the pub from the previous owners plans to turn it into houses!
We will definitely be returning and I would not hesitate in recommending the Artist Residence Oxford.

Quirky and stylish pub with wonderful food
My husband found this place on-line and booked us in for lunch on the way to a weekend in the Cotswolds. They had only just opened but the service and food was excellent- the menu is small but perfectly judged and would not be out of place in a Central London restaurant. Everyone was very welcoming. Although this a very old thatched pub, it has been beautifully refurbished with very stylish touches and not at all country twee. I really wish this place was closer to home but I suppose we will just have to book a room next time and allow ourselves to indulge in the food and wine next time.

Gorgeous decor and lovely food.
We were with our two children and had Sunday lunch. Menu was quite small but they've only just started. The crab starter was very small but delicious. The barbecue chicken main with celeriac was absolutely delicious. Desserts were a strong point with unusual flavours executed perfectly. Our waitress (Pauline? Blond hair) was absolutely lovely, warm and friendly and knowledgeable. We enjoyed it very much. The rooms are also exquisite. Nowhere else in the local area has style and panache like this. Definitely one for special occasion dining and child free romantic nights away! We will definitely be back for the latter!
