Reviews

My wife and I were invited to attend one of the opening nights at the Artist Residence Oxford and having been to some of their other hotels, our expectations were high. However we were not disappointed! The property is an old country pub with a lovely thatched roof located in a nice little village about 8 miles from Oxford City centre. It is clear that the property has been attentively restored and the Artist Residence have put there own unique twist on it. Throughout the decor is quirky but tasteful and the walls are covered in interesting artwork. This combination is a far way from how the place would have looked in the years gone by, but it really works. The rooms have all the original character but with modern luxury twists. We had a really comfy and relaxing nights rest. There is a cosy pub area with giant fire places and the bar serves some interesting wines, beers and cocktails. There is also a cocktail bar and restaurant space. We experienced the 5 course tasting menu and really enjoyed every course, but the stand out course for me was the Lamb - perfectly cooked and so tasty! Hats off to the chef - the food here is not your average pub fare - this is serious foodie heaven, fresh produce, creative dishes but not over complicated and would give some London West End restaurants a run for their money. Overall, a fabulous retreat and an amazing restaurant. But what brings all of it together are the staff. Everyone was so welcoming and attentive during our stay, they really couldn't do enough for you. A number of the staff we spoke to were local and had a real passion and appreciation for what they had created. It turns out the locals all campaigned to save the pub from the previous owners plans to turn it into houses! We will definitely be returning and I would not hesitate in recommending the Artist Residence Oxford.

Gorgeous decor and lovely food. We were with our two children and had Sunday lunch. Menu was quite small but they've only just started. The crab starter was very small but delicious. The barbecue chicken main with celeriac was absolutely delicious. Desserts were a strong point with unusual flavours executed perfectly. Our waitress (Pauline? Blond hair) was absolutely lovely, warm and friendly and knowledgeable. We enjoyed it very much. The rooms are also exquisite. Nowhere else in the local area has style and panache like this. Definitely one for special occasion dining and child free romantic nights away! We will definitely be back for the latter!

Quirky and stylish pub with wonderful food My husband found this place on-line and booked us in for lunch on the way to a weekend in the Cotswolds. They had only just opened but the service and food was excellent- the menu is small but perfectly judged and would not be out of place in a Central London restaurant. Everyone was very welcoming. Although this a very old thatched pub, it has been beautifully refurbished with very stylish touches and not at all country twee. I really wish this place was closer to home but I suppose we will just have to book a room next time and allow ourselves to indulge in the food and wine next time.
