The Queen´s Gallery, hosts a programme of changing exhibitions from the Royal Collection. Exhibitions in 2006 include: Unfolding Pictures: Fans in the Royal Collection (9 Dec to 29 May 2006). This first exhibition of fans brings together over 80 examples from the early 17th century to the 1930s. Among the highlights are a leather fan said to have belonged to Charles I. Canaletto in Venice (16 June to 7 January 2007). Fourteen luminous paintings from the Grand Canal form the centrepiece of the exhibition and are displayed with 71 works on paper, the largest group of Canaletto´s drawings ever shown in the UK.

Top Ten Art Galleries in Scotland by Ian Sclater

"The Royal Collection is probably the most valuable in the world, and The Queen’s Gallery showcases selections from it in a series of changing exhibitions. Marking Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee is ‘Treasures from The Queen’s Palaces’ (until Nov 4), about a hundred works spanning 500 years and reflecting the tastes of monarchs and other members of the royal family."

10 Best Whisky Experiences in Edinburgh by Adrian Mourby

"While England has been going through its “Ginaissance”, Scotland has seen its national drink –unfashionable as late as the 1980s - reach stratospheric levels of desirability around the world. Wealthy people want to own bottles that retail in four figure sums. Wealthy companies want to own whole distilleries.

Edinburgh doesn’t have any distilleries within the city, but it is full of people who want to experience Scots whisky. Walk down the Royal Mile and you are assailed by shops selling whisky, tartan and cashmere. There is a subtle preponderance of certain retail companies who give their outlets different names but sell all the same whiskies at all the same prices.

So how to get an authentic experience of whisky while visiting in the Scottish capital? Here are ten places worth visiting where you are guaranteed to learn and enjoy – and not get ripped off in the process."
