Overview

Sitting on the Gosport side of Portsmouth Harbour, the Royal Navy Submarine Museum is a treasure trove for those with an interest in military history. This is home to the RN's very first submarine Holland 1 and the only surviving WW2 midget submarine, X24. Hop onboard HMS Alliance, the world's only British WW2 era ocean going submarine which is now ready for patrol. This is a family-friendly attraction with excellent, thought-out additions like meeting a submariner to hear his stories about living beneath the waves. Expect working periscopes, hands on interactive games, the funny “Horrible Science of Submarines” exhibition and an indoor family play centre “Busy Boat Bay”. For more info go to www.submarine-museum.co.uk or call 023 92510354.

Reviews

This was a tremendous museum. We had to return on the Sunday as there was too much of interest for us in our visit on Saturday. This museum must be retained. The children's educational area was excellent and of interest to me. I would definitely take youngsters there.
