Discover a world of art and history in The Hove Museum and Art Gallery
If you're looking for things to do in Brighton and Hove, The Hove Museum and Art Gallery is a must. Housed in a Italianate Victorian villa which sits in a tranquil garden just off the busy New Church Road a two minute walk from the seafront. Once the home of a wealthy widow, then a place to house German PoWs during WW2, this gorgeous building has a treasure trove of exhibits. If you have children, head straight to the Wizards Attic – a toy heaven with dolls, mechanical objects, miniature trains, teddies, rocking horses and tricycles to inspect. The film gallery houses exhibits on the pioneering film makers of Hove in the 1890s and 1900s while the local history gallery enlightens on how the area has progressed since prehistoric times. It has a leading contemporary craft gallery with one of the finest collections in the country. There's also something for fine art lovers too with three centuries of prints, paintings, drawings and sculptures. Outside, take a look at the Jaipur Gate in the grounds.
