Summary

There’s nothing like a great family day out at Beaulieu. Beaulieu is an award winning day out with something for everyone, home to The National Motor Museum, Palace House, World of Top gear and more!

Where is Beaulieu located?

Beaulieu is in the heart of the New Forest National Park, not far from Southampton, Bournemouth, Winchester, Salisbury and Portsmouth.

What is the history of Beaulieu to the present day?

There are over 800 years of heritage to be seen on the Beaulieu Estate, which has been in the ownership of the Montagu family for over four centuries. Beaulieu Abbey was founded in 1204 by Cistercian monks where they lived and worked until the dissolution of the monasteries by King Henry VIII. Like many other confiscated church lands, the Beaulieu Estate was sold to one of Henry’s friends, Thomas Wriothesley, 1st Earl of Southampton, a direct ancestor of the current owners. He converted the former Great Gatehouse into Palace House. In 1952, Edward, Lord Montagu opened Palace House and Gardens to the public for the first time – making Beaulieu among the first 'stately homes' to admit visitors.

What is there to see and do at Beaulieu?

There's something for everyone at Beaulieu! See over 250 vehicles in the National Motor Museum and explore the historic home of the Montagu family, Palace House. Walk in the footsteps of medieval monks in Beaulieu Abbey, and see film and TV favourites in The World of Top Gear and On Screen Cars. There are beautiful gardens to explore and you can save your feet with unlimited rides on the monorail and veteran bus. Kids can let off steam in the play area, and re-fuel in the Brabazon restaurant.

Ten Places for a Perfect Weekend in Hampshire by Natalie French

"Excite... The National Motor Museum in Beaulieu is world renowned for a very good reason, with a collection of 250 vehicles from 1895 to today; it is also home to a few corkers from the big screen. To celebrate 50 years of Bond films, this year the museum will exhibit 007’s most iconic vehicles, from cars to jets. ‘World of Top Gear’ also pulls in the crowds, as does Ron Weasley’s ‘Flying’ Ford Anglia from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets."

Hampshire's Best Sights by Ben Ward

"Hampshire is a county known to fly somewhat under the radar. Adjacent to Dorset with its beautiful beaches; and Sussex, which contains one of the most vibrant and exciting cities in the whole of the UK in Brighton, some might think that Hampshire has nothing to offer. This article will beg to differ and begin to explore some of the best spots, sights and attractions that are an absolute must for anyone wishing to visit the county."
