TOP TEN FAMILY DAYS OUT

Olivia Greenway

Back to Inspirations
Finding an attraction that will keep the whole family occupied, from a three year old to the grandparents is what this list is all about. Some of the attractions are all-day affairs, for others a few hours is sufficient. They all offer good value for money. Family tickets (typically, two adults, three children) are often available and many places do not charge for children under 5. Seniors usually enjoy a reduction. For the open all year places, an impromptu off-season visit can be a good plan, especially if the weather is unseasonably mild.
Bucklers Hard Village

An old shipbuilding village on the banks of the Beaulieu River in the New Forest, this peaceful spot is particularly attractive when the weather is fine. Visit the old shops in the High Street, the re-created shipwright's house, amble through the apple orchard and maybe take a trip on the river. Two cafes. Picnic tables. Family ticket £18. Open all year.

ZSL London Zoo

One of the best zoos in the world, London Zoo does much for animal conservation not just in the UK but abroad. It's like a who's who of the animal kingdom with every creature imaginable living here. Feeding, keeper talks and plenty else to occupy you. Spend a whole day to get the maximum benefit. Several cafes and hotdog carts. Adults online from £20.50, Children from £16. Open all year.
