What could be better than a staycation by the sea? You're well away from the hustle and bustle of the city, ready to discover the many delights of the coast: whether bracing walks taking in the salty sea air, visiting a quaint resort, indulging in a watersport, sampling the delicious fresh, local seafood or perhaps spending a relaxing day at the beach. According to Ordnance Survey, the main island of Great Britain boasts a whopping 11,072.76 miles/17,819.88 kms of coastline, offering great variety - from imposing majestic cliffs to long expanses of sandy beach - and so there's always fabulous choice. Here's a selection of some great accommodation options by the sea.
Incleborough House Luxury Self Catering

This spacious Grade II-listed 16th century cottage set within secluded walled gardens is just 300 metres from the beach. Coastal and woodland walks are in abundance, and outstanding bird watching opportunities. The cottage is a short drive from the Norfolk Broads and the Broadlands, an inland waterway with no locks, making it ideal for sailing.

Hardcragg Hall

Bigger groups - Hardcragg sleeps up to 14 - will enjoy the Lake District coastal delights here. The Grade II listed 16th century manor house features oak panelled rooms, mullioned windows and log fires, as well as landscaped gardens with a pond and views of Morecambe Bay. Nearby is the seaside town of South Lakeland with its scenic fell and woodland walks and mile-long traffic free promenade.
