The Merchant’s Yard in Tideswell, Derbyshire, brings together strong local and family history as well as modern comfort across the restaurant and eight rooms. More boutique hotel than restaurant with rooms this spacious building once housed a 1930s hardware store before the Markovitz family transformed it into the popular neighbourhood restaurant it is today. The eight stylish bedrooms are large and luxurious, with modern en-suite bathrooms featuring thoughtful touches such as bath tea bags and shower bombs. There are proper desks too, allowing you to catch up with work if you have to! This popular dining spot has been transformed into a small boutique hotel in the heart of the Peak District with charm and character. Travelling by car? No problem, a spot in the car park will be reserved for you with your own name sign, and you're greeted by a smiling team who immediately make you feel at home.
Each room here feels thoughtfully put together, with soft colours, good lighting, and large comfortable beds ideal after a day walking the trails. The bathrooms are smart, modern and finished with marble.
The restaurant remains at the centre of the Merchant's Yard experience. It has a loyal local and not-so-local following for good reason. The menu focuses on seasonal produce, strong flavours, and generous portions. Breakfast is cooked to order and sets you up well for a day outdoors - there's even boiled egg and soldiers on the menu. Lovely Matt and Laura will serve you at the bar - be sure to make the most of the happy hour on Thursdays if you can include a Thursday night in your stay.
Location is a strong pull but many guests will drive an hour to dine here. Tideswell sits between Buxton and Bakewell, so you have easy access to walking routes, limestone valleys, and pretty villages. You can return to a warm welcome, comfortable rooms, and a well-run restaurant steeped in local history. The Chatsworth Estate is only 15 minutes away if you're after a leisurely morning soaking up some history and culture.
The Merchant’s Yard suits walkers, couples, and anyone who wants a simple, stylish stay with excellent food at its core. A great location for weddings too.
