TEN VENUES FOR TWENTIES THEMED WEDDINGS

Liz Coggins

Back to Inspirations
Long before The Great Gatsby was premièred it was setting the trend for the hottest looks in the fashion, beauty, jewellery and the wedding scene. Bridal designers created 20's style dresses, hats and accessories whilst hair and make up took on a distinctly structured Gatsby look. Recreating those heady days is now very much in vogue with must haves ranging from jazz bands, vintage transport and gin fizz cocktails to lace veils, headbands and wonderful low heeled satin pointed toe shoes. But to get the ultimate 20's feel your venue really needs sweeping lawns, fountains, a pale exterior, terraces, pastel décor and maybe a touch of genuine art deco. So I've chosen a collection that will help you step back to the most glamorous age.
The Royal Hotel

The architecture, design, setting and romantic ambience of The Royal creates a magical backdrop to step back in time. The pretty subtropical, lush gardens and the geranium terrace are perfect for pre-reception drinks and provide a wonderful backdrop for photographs. Whether you choose the elegant and stylish grandeur of the dining room or the Riveria Terrace for an alfresco wedding breakfast experienced The Royal will create your very own dream menu.

The Imperial Hotel

The romantic pastel pink and white facade of this venue could have been designed for the arrival of the happy couple in their open top vintage car. The terraces laced with potted palms make a wonderful 20's style backdrop for reception drinks whilst the light and airy white, yellow and gold décor of the function rooms are the perfect match for a Gatsby theme.

South Lodge, an Exclusive Hotel

Rolling lawns, flowered terraces and a beautiful lake surround this venue making it picture perfect for your chosen 20's era. Most rooms for ceremonies and receptions have patio doors that lead on to sunny terraces. There's an outdoor gazebo for summer weddings whilst in December the Drawing Room gives a special twist to winter weddings. Sipping cocktails to the sound of a jazz band on the terraced lawns would add the ultimate touch to your dream reception.

Cliveden House

This elegantly decadent venue with its lavish interiors, perfumed gardens, and breathtaking grounds will fulfil every expectation of your dream day with authenticity as it played host to the 20's rich and famous. Enter this palace of dreams to the sound of muted music and smell of flowers before tying the knot in the Lady Astor Suite followed by a sumptuous wedding breakfast in the grand surrounding of the French Dining Room.

The Mount Somerset Hotel & Spa

This Georgian country house ticks every box for a sophisticated Gatsby wedding. It has an air of opulent, genteel elegance reflected in its sweeping staircase, light pastel muted tone décor and sumptuous furnishings with terraces that lead on to the fountain garden, the perfect backdrop for cocktails and photographs. The crystal chandeliered drawing room is breathtaking for weddings whilst for grand parties a marquee can be placed in the grounds.

Hatton Court Hotel

On the edge of the Cotswolds and built in the 1920's supposedly for the mistress of a prominent businessman this venue is set in beautiful gardens with glorious views. Its renowned Grand Garden Marquee allows you a blank canvass for your Gatsby themed wedding. With an intimate atmosphere it is self-contained, fully heated with its own kitchen, decking, gardens and bar and can also be used for a drinks reception if you prefer an indoor wedding breakfast.

Sopwell House

Once the home of Lord Mountbatten it is rumoured that royal proposals have taken place in the gardens of this imposing white residence. It has a dazzling array of sophisticated function suites flooded by natural daylight or if you prefer it, an outdoor garden setting to say I do. Some suites, with dance floors, lead directly onto beautiful terraces and gardens perfect for alfresco dancing.
