MAY DAY CELEBRATIONS

Back to Inspirations
In 2015, life is pretty much a non-stop round of answering emails, checking Facebook and Instagram messages and cramming life in between. So this early May Bank Holiday, make like you've gone back in time to an era when Twitter was the sound birds made in the trees and take yourself off to a traditional British May Day celebration. They happen all over the country and we've an accommodation suggestion near most of them. Here are six of our favourite ways to hark back to a simpler age….
Dart Marina Hotel & Spa

Worm charming in Blackawton, South Devon. May 3: On May 3 this year, the village of Blackawton goes worm crazy. The annual May Day worm charming festival kicks off at The Normandy Arms with bacon baps and tea (or something stronger). Worm charming teams register and then parade (all in fancy dress of course) through the village led by the Blackawton Morris. There's a stop at the George Inn for some Maypole dancing by the village children and to toast the worms and then it's off up to a chosen field to get the competition underway. There's also a dog show (floppiest ears, waggiest tail etc), live music, loads of stalls and games. Stay at: The Dart Marina Golf and Spa Hotel in Dartmouth. Recently refurbished and with many rooms boasting amazing countryside views, this is a luxurious spot to retreat to when you are all wormed out, with pool, sauna, Jacuzzi and lovely treatment rooms.
