Overview

Wrea Head Hall is a country house hotel set in gardens and woodland on the edge of the North York Moors, a few minutes from Scarborough. Built in 1881, the hall still carries the details of its past with oak panelling, stained-glass windows and fireplaces that give the house a strong sense of history.

The 32 bedrooms are spread between the Mansion and the Carriage House, each have their own charm. Some have four-poster beds, others freestanding baths and rain showers, and many look across the gardens or towards the moors. Rich fabrics and deep colours bring a feeling of warmth and comfort. Breakfast is centred on Yorkshire ingredients, whether you choose a full English or something lighter. The location of Wrea Head Hall makes it easy to combine days on North Yorkshire's Heritage Coast with walks on the moors and visits to nearby villages such as Whitby, Filey and Robin Hood's Bay.

This privately owned hotel is known for its genuine welcome and relaxed atmosphere. You can spend an afternoon with a book by the fire, enjoy Afternoon Tea in the drawing room or wander through the gardens before dinner in 1881. The oak-panelled 1881 Restaurant is known for contemporary British food served in an elegant dining room, where crisp white tablecloths and attentive service set the tone.

Britain's Finest in conversation with Wrea Head Hall Hotel

What do you think makes a stay at Wrea Head Hall Hotel unique?

Wrea Head Hall Hotel is a Victorian Gothic mansion set within acres of landscaped mature gardens and woodland within a short distance of North Yorkshire's Heritage Coast and the North York Moors National Park. A Bell Tower, gargoyles and stained glass windows add to its Gothic charm.

Thirty two individually designed bedrooms are spread between the mansion and the adjacent Carriage House with bathrooms finished in a variety of marble, granite, travertine or ceramic tiling, offering a selection of classic 'roll top' baths and double-sized shower cubicles complete with 'rain-showers'.

The oak panelled '1881' restaurant is renowned for serving contemporary British Cuisine in the elegant dining room where crisp white table cloths and impeccable service are the norm.

The Hall is an fine example of an intact Country House whose external appearance remains unchanged since its completion in 1881 with all  principal public rooms retaining their original oak panelling or ornate plasterwork and elegant interiors.

The Hotel is ideally located close to the coast road and makes an ideal base to explore the local attractions such as Whitby, Filey, Robin Hood's Bay, Staithes and Flamborough Head as well as the local beaches. Slightly further afield the Cathedral City of York is to be found, with the legendary Castle Howard, known to many as the setting for Brideshead Revisited, which may be found en route. The expanse of the North York Moors National Park borders the hotel's grounds which includes one of only 24 'International Dark Sky Reserve' in the world.
