Review of Widbrook Grange

recently stayed in this beautiful hotel. I always hate going away and not being able to take my dog with me so this hotel had already met my expectations! The moment we entered reception, we were met with a very friendly, welcoming greeting and then shown around the hotel before going to our room. The room itself did not disappoint, it was a family room, with bath and shower and had everything I needed for a comfortable stay. During our one night stay we enjoyed the Gin bar, the staff were very friendly, fussed over my dog which she loved, gave her a bowl of biscuits while we enjoyed a glass or two of gin and tonic. I was able to take my dog Annie pretty much anywhere within the hotel and grounds with the exception of the dining areas but the staff were more than happy to arrange a table for me outside the dining area so that I didn't have to leave my dog in the room by herself. I cannot fault the staff, they were absolutely wonderful, nothing was too much trouble. The food was delicious, very fresh and very well presented and lastly the cream teas were, in all honesty, the best I've ever tasted. I will definitely be staying again but for a longer period so that I am able to enjoy more walks along the canal and experience more of the surrounding areas.

We had a two night break. The hotel was perfect with warm welcome from the staff. Our room was in the main house. It was very atmospheric & the bed extremely comfortable. We enjoyed the gin bar for pre dinner drinks. The food was excellent & beautifully presented. The hotel has lovely lounges with open fireplaces. There are plenty of places to visit nearby or for walking. We will be going back to enjoy this gem of a hotel.

stayed two nights with my wife at Widbrook Grange and we were both delighted with the hospitality shown by Hakan and his team. We stayed in the main house in a very comfortable double bedroom, (Artists room), and also enjoyed the comforts of the gin bar and relaxing lounges. The food and service were outstanding and Attila kept us entertained in a very professional and friendly manner. I am sure we will be back, maybe even with our dog as the Grange thoughtfully provides different areas to cater for all.

Widbrook Grange was amazing, I was in interior heaven here. The room was so gorgeous with so many lovely little added touches. The Gin bar was great and so were the cosy lounges. Breakfast was yum and all of the staff were friendly and helpful. I can't wait to visit again!

Excellent 3 night stay, with husband & Dogs! Large spacious room. Very welcoming on arrival / check in. Atmosphere & environment was very relaxed, however service was very good. A very pleasant, country hotel, lots of lovely features. Would definitely stay again and would highly recommend to anyone wishing to take their dogs with them

Wonderfully quirky hotel, with beautiful large rooms. Friendly, helpful and attentive staff in all areas. Good cream tea served in the afternoon and the restaurant was even better than anticipated. Nice canal walk nearby and the local train station in only 15 minute ride to Bath.

We had a lovely four day break at this very comfortable and beautifully furnished hotel.   We had a gorgeous room in the main hotel and, as well as a nice selection of teas, there was a cafetiere with freshly ground coffee in the room.   The hotel is very well situated on the outskirts of Bradford-on-Avon and it is a 15 minute walk into town. If you don't wish to walk and want to give the car and the driver a rest, very close to the hotel, there is a very conveniently situated bus stop with a bus running every half hour into Bradford-on-Avon and then onto Bath. The Kennet Avon canal is very close by for a walk. There is a nice conservatory and other cosy rooms to sit in downstairs and a good sized dining room. The freshly cooked breakfasts were very good and the dinners were absolutely delicious. There is also a very extensive gin bar with very knowledgeable bar staff who will prepare you a bespoke drink, based on your personal tastes. The staff are absolutely charming and efficient. We would love to come back again.

This 2 night break was to belatedly celebrate our wedding anniversary (my husband was in hospital on the original date!). It wasn't in the same area as we had originally planned, but we have friends in the area so arranged to visit them as well. We had a lovely friendly welcome from the girls in reception who showed us to our room (all staff in reception we encountered were very friendly). This was very comfortable, clean, quite large and had a view over the hotel grounds which was great, especially first thing am when the rabbits were running round in a nearby pasture. The bar area was quite small, but there are also 2 lounges where you can take drinks (a huge selection of gins!). We dined in the restaurant on both nights and, what can I say, the food was wonderful - thank you so much Sandor for the beautifully presented and excellently cooked meals. At breakfast we were served by Michaela who is a very efficient and friendly young lady. The breakfast was also beautifully presented and well cooked with a large variety on offer. Our thanks go also to Attila and Marius - our waiters from Romania - who made our stay very happy.

Have just returned from a one night stay at Widbrook Grange and all I can say it was fabulous. The staff were lovely from arrival to checkout. Our room was stunning we stayed in room 6 “Artists Room” with a roll top bath in the room and a separate walk in rainfall shower & toilet. The attention to detail was lovely from the artists box to hold the tea and coffee and the retro radios. Such lovely touches as packets of filter coffee and a cafetière to brew it in. Shampoo, shower gel, hand soap all locally produced with natural products and were amazing. The bed was huge and very comfortable had the best nights sleep ever the pillows just enveloped you. The food was delicious not the largest portions but superb and after 3 courses we couldn’t have eaten any more. All in all it was a fantastic stay everything about the hotel was lovely and I would recommend wholeheartedly.

Visited today with my mum for her birthday as a treat for afternoon tea. We actually only live 5 minutes down the road and drive by this hotel all the time but never actually visited! It is off the beaten track and although by a main road it is so quiet and tranquil with beautiful gardens and a lovely setting. The young girl who served us was a delight as were all the staff! The quality of the food was on par - so delicious! What makes this place unique is it’s gin bar - over 50 types of gin and the staff know how it should be served - mine came with basil and ginger and my mums came with fennel!   The whole interior is beautiful - rustic with roaring fires and a homely cottage feel. Didn’t stay here so can’t comment on the rooms but as for setting, quality, afternoon tea and staff I would definitely recommend and we will definitely be returning!

Two nights here, in an unexpectedly snowy March weekend with our Border terrier, which we thoroughly enjoyed. We had room 11, with a huge bed, lots of space, cosy bathroom and hospitality tray, which included a welcome box for our little dog with a Lily's Kitchen foil tray, biscuits, a ball and poo bags! Also included was a generous and soft dog bed. Our delicious dinner included a duck and local ham ballotine, well flavoured and beautifully presented, a perfectly cooked loin of venison, pink as ordered, and a very good local cheese board. We drank an excellent Cotes de Rhone 2015. Service is exemplary and breakfast offers a generous buffet with an extensive choice of cereals, nuts, seeds and fruits with very good coffee and pastries. Recommended.

It is perhaps unusual to have the opportunity, or indeed reason, to review the same hotel twice within three months but my wife and I spent two nights at Widbrook Grange last December and were so impressed with the hotel and particularly its staff that we decided to return for a family celebration of our 50th wedding anniversary. Hence 19 family members, aged from 80 to 18 months, descended on Widbrook Grange last weekend with some of us staying for several nights and others coming just for a celebration lunch. The warmth of the welcome we received was wonderful and as with our previous visit “our” room was very well presented, spotlessly clean, and with an exceedingly comfortable bed. The en-suite bathroom was well appointed. Everywhere in this hotel one becomes fascinated by the quirky fixtures and fittings adapted from various artefacts, such as the wall lights made from old taps with a bulb concealed in the spout and a glass “drop of water” handing beneath. The beautifully proportioned full size horse welded from gears, chains and motor cycle exhaust pipes or the sheep made from sparking plugs that stand in the grounds are works of art worthy of a visit in their own right. However it is the staff that makes this hotel so enjoyable. Making the arrangements for such a large party was efficiency personified, and everyone is so friendly and genuinely pleased to serve you. The well-stocked bar with its enormous range of gins from around the world and the comfortable lounge areas make for a relaxing atmosphere, but special mention must be given to the restaurant which certainly deserves its two “rosette” status.
he quality of the food cooked using local produce is extraordinary, but perhaps most impressive of all was the service for our celebration lunch, for being Mothering Sunday the restaurant was full to absolute capacity. In most establishments this would have put the staff under real pressure and small details would have been missed, but not so at Widbrook Grange. Our superbly cooked lunch was served on time, each dish precisely as ordered and served with a professional, dignified calm as though we were the only party there. This hotel is a “destination” in its own right, but nearby Bradford-on-Avon which I first knew in the 1950’s has developed into a beautiful town making a stay here an enjoyable and rewarding experience for persons of all ages. With the facilities it and the town offer, we have no hesitation in
recommending Widbrook Grange to anyone seeking a rewarding break away in a beautiful part of England.

Very friendly place to stay, staff very good, we arrived about 2 hours early, but as we had driven 4.5 hours we were very pleased our room was ready and able to go straight to it.
It was a great room, just to right size and the bathroom was nice and bright. everything was lovely and clean. We went up to the boathouse for lunch and that was also very good.
The bar had all the gins you could wish for and the lady who was running the bar knew her gins and was very friendly, the manager was a very nice man, in fact all staff were great. Breakfast was very good. and the evening meals were very good. So all in all a great break and that beat place we have stayed in for a long time. Keep up the good work

Had a fantastic afternoon tea and glass of prosecco yesterday afternoon. Bought a voucher from Travelzoo for my mum for Xmas. The actual tea was probably the best we've ever had and we've sampled a few! Gorgeous fresh sandwiches and warm freshly baked scones plus some fancy small bits of cake and fresh strawberries Endless tea and all served up in a beautifully decorated setting. The staff are very friendly and I loved all the unusual lighting and bits and pieces of decor. Had a little tour of the place. They specialise in gin tasting events and I think I will definitely be back to try that plus a meal and stay at their lovely hotel. A very enjoyable experience.

We stayed here for two nights in a classic room in The courtyard block. Room was lovely, beautiful comfy bedding (super king) , novel tea tray but well equipped. Dogs bed, bowls and treats supplied. Very nice old main building tastefully done with nice touches, lovely gin bar and seperate dining room if you want your dogs with you. They even had a sausage for breakfast and a chicken dinner on the Woof package. Hotel a hundred metres from the canal towpath and a lovely walk into town on that and then via the Tithe barn along the River Avon. Extensive garden kept the dogs ?? happy, but not the rabbits. ??

From start to finish we had a wonderful time. Staff have been really friendly and helpful to my partner and I and our dog. Great quirky decor in the hotel reception and dining rooms which afforded comfortable and relaxing dinner/breakfast and drinking areas. Food has been nothing but delicious and beyond expectations. The dog friendly environment only added to our wonderful two night stay. He was given lots of attention, treats and his very own dog bed which he insisted on taken with him every where. Lovely swim in the pool. Bedroom we had was perfect for our needs, powerful and warm shower, huge bed and spot on amenities. We will very much look forward to our next visit. The staff really could not have been more accommodating and we would like to thank them for an amazing time.

With such a fabulous team of staff it would be hard to fail and you only have to read other reviews to realise that this team is special because they really care and want you to have a great stay - and we did! Only two nights but we feel as if we have had a week away. It is cosy, warm, quirky and feels like a family home with the fire in the sitting room and the fact that it hasn't been converted into a character-less open plan 'space'.   Good beds and excellent bed linen; very good food and superb gin-tasting; super dog friendly and high end great value for money, what's not to like? Bradford on Avon is a lovely town and Bath so close by, we will definitely be back and as long as you aren't looking for a run of the mill, anonymous chain, I cannot recommend Widbrook Grange more highly.

Went for a festive family evening meal and ticked all the boxes. The property was beautifully lit and decorated.   Before dining we decided to go into the gin bar, very cool decor, lots of recycled objects, bar staff enthusiastic, sharing knowledge of the vast selection of gins on offer. Also found out that the owner had many other properties across the UK of a similar nature, definitely sounded like a few other gems to visit! Whilst enjoying the ambience we looked over the fabulous fresh/local menu, we were spoilt for choice! We went to our table and were then presented with some freshly made bread, lovely touch. Did not wait long for our food, all beautifully presented, and did not disappoint with the fresh ingredients. After our meal we decided to have coffee and further yummy drinks in the front lounge, a home from home feel, lovely real fire burning and soothing music.   We had a wonderful time and thank all the staff for making us welcome.

What a lovely suprise this hotel was, the staff were warm and friendly and the bedrooom was very comfortable, the pure cotton duvet and pillows of goose down were luxurious. We began the evening with gin tasting with 50 different gins to try. The decor was full of quirky items one of which was a sheep constructed with spark plugs. Excellent food with optional dining in the Boathouse opposite the hotel by the Avon Canal with lots of walks in beautiful countryside all around and the city of Bath a short drive away for culture and shopping. We will be visiting the hotel again for sure.

We absolutely love this place! We have had numerous meals, to glasses of wine here and also our amazing Wedding day! Everybody worked so hard to achieve such high standards, which is what we were obviously hoping for! Claire Our Wedding planner felt like a sister to me by the end of it, as her communication and genuine warmth was just amazing throughout. The rest of the Widbrook team were just fantastic and we can't thank them enough. The food was delicious and the service top notch. All our guests loved their rooms and keep badgering us for our anniversary to be held there! Hakan was great to have around and Emma and Amy were just lovely! We will continue to eat and drink at Widbrook as it is a very Special place and deserves to continue to do very well xxx

My wife and I have just enjoyed a superb two night stay at this eclectic hotel on the outskirts of Bradford-on-Avon. Perhaps best testimony as to our pleasure was that before we left we booked a repeat 3 night visit to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary, along with a celebration Sunday lunch for our extended family early next year.

The success of every hotel is dependent on its staff, and from the moment one arrives at the Widbrook Grange it is very clear that there is a great team of friendly, professional people ready and waiting to make your stay there special.

Everywhere within the hotel from the rooms, the extensive public areas, the bar, restaurant, to the delightful heated indoor swimming pool and gym was spotlessly clean and even in December the gardens were being tended.

With a bar boasting 65 different gins from around the world and knowledgeable staff to dispense them, the optional “Gin Tasting” makes a fascinating way to while away some time before dinner.

The restaurant is referred to as “fine dining”, which in some hotels often translates as pretentious little on a very large plate!! At Widbrook Grange it reads as well balanced, delightful food, and excellent flavours, cooked with great skill using the best of local ingredients, all presented and served with great skill. The wine list is comprehensive enough to suit everyone’s taste and budget.

Although within a walking distance (longish) to the centre of Bradford-on-Avon the close proximity of the hotel to the Kennet & Avon Canal towpath makes it an ideal centre for anyone wanting to combine walking or cycling with their stay.

There is also an equestrian centre close by and a marina where I understand the hotel can arrange the day hire of boats for guests if wanted.

Perhaps unusually, this hotel positively welcomes dogs and during our visit, there were several staying, but as the hotel has 11 acres of grounds they were never of concern to guests like us without canine companions.

Notwithstanding the excellent staff perhaps a stay at this hotel will be remembered for its “zany” fixtures and fittings, such as the lights in the foyer made from old watering cans, lamp shades from copper buckets, whilst the bar stools are retired metal tractor seats, all tastefully executed. Milk on the tables at breakfast is served in 1/3 pint “school” glass milk bottles, whilst a retired electric milk float “stands guard” outside the front door.

We are certainly looking forward to our next visit to this hotel, and can thoroughly recommend it to anyone, perhaps looking for any alternative to hotels in Bath, which is easily reached by the frequent train or bus services from Bradford on Avon.
