During WW2 the Montagu Arms was used by the home-guard, (the real Dad's Army) as a firing position in the event of invasion. Guest have included Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, British Actor Henry Irving; Writer, Sir H. Rider Haggard and the former French president, General Charles de Gaulle. The sculptor Guiseppe Lund OBE designed the charming fountain that forms the focal point of the gardens at The Montagu Arms.

The Montagu Arm houses 33 en-suite bedrooms, all unique in style, some including four-poster beds, and each designed to make guests feel entirely comfortable and homely. The White Company, toiletries are provided and a fluffy bathrobe comes as standard for each guest.
