Mortons House Hotel & Restaurant

East Street, Corfe Castle, Dorset, BH20 5EE

Situated in the heart of the Isle of Purbeck, Mortons House provides the perfect centre from which to enjoy this beautiful corner of England. Built in 1590 in the shape of an 'E' to honour Queen Elizabeth I, the building has been sympathetically converted into a pretty twenty one bedroom hotel. Rooms are individually decorated with their own unique style and charm; one boasts a four poster bed. The 2 AA Rosette Restaurant serves traditional English food and excellent wines. During the winter months the log fire in the Oak Room crackles warmly.

Mortons House Hotel & Restaurant is part of the following Travel Ideas:

10 of the Best New Year's Eve Hotels by Dinah Hatch

"Put simply, they LOVE Christmas and New Year at Mortons. And they’re good at it too – guests have been known to come back to this 16th century Grade II Elizabethan manor house time and time again to pop the champers corks and welcome in the fresh year. Log fires, lounges with comfy chairs, gorgeous festive decorations, award-winning food and staff that really get into the spirit make this a great choice for NYE. The package includes dinner on December 30, breakfast on new year’s day, a gala dinner in the evening and, rather sweetly, a suggestion that you wander into the village square before the chime of midnight to join in the communal celebrations. The hotel assures that a glass of champagne will await your return. Spend a few days here, picking your way along the Jurassic coast with its stunning beaches at Studland, Swanage and Lulworth or even take the children on a steam train journey (it passes the hotel’s garden)."

Ten luxury Hotels visited by royals by Adrian Mourby

"When the Dacomb family built this manor house in 1590 an extra wing was added to give the building an “E” shape in honour of Elizabeth I who eventually came to stay. The aged queen was still short of money and in need of free lodgings. Controversially she had just got herself in trouble with Parliament for bypassing them and raising revenue from selling patronages. The manor was enlarged after the Civil War using stones from nearby Corfe Castle which had been blown up by Parliamentarians."

10 Historic Hotels along the English Riviera by Adrian Mourby

"The Isle of Purbeck is not really an island although it is surrounded by water or swamps on all sides. This idiosyncratic part of the English coastline is epitomised by Morton’s House, which was built in the 1590s by William Dacomb and extended 1666 using stone taken from the ruins of Corfe Castle. The house was originally linked by underground tunnels to the castle. Its current name comes from John Morton who inherited the house in 1712."

We had our wedding at Morton's House 9/10 and we had the most wonderful day , Bev and her staff were absolutely amazing , nothing was too much trouble and they were so helpful in the setting up of all my decorations , they were so well organised and then later the food was fabulous the staff even managed to keep track of an impromptu move of a few guests .
My wedding guests were made to feel welcome and all expressed that they had felt at home and relaxed throughout the the day .

“Wonderful venue for a reunion”

We were entertaining people from all over England and wanted to give a good impression. The hotel came up trumps with pleasant well trained staff and excellent cuisine. We didn't have the slightest problem with anything. The historic hotel was delightful and well furnished in traditional style. We were so impressed that we decided to come again next year.

'We just love this hotel!'
As good this time as the first time we visited, Mortons House Hotel is a warm, friendly, comfortable and quite delightful place to escape to! From the panelled lounge with its so inviting log fire to the characterful bedrooms to the peaceful dining room, everything feels so right! We have always found all the staff to be friendly, courteous and helpful and the food just surpasses all expectation - and what an amazing choice! This hotel is to be commended. We are already planning our next visit!
