At the heart of the 5-star Gilpin Hotel & Lake House is a passionate family whose goal is to create everlasting memories for their guests. The extraordinary service and Michelin-starred cuisine work together to form a place of warmth and friendliness. Each bedroom has lovely views, six rooms with hot tubs, and five with steam rooms, hot tubs and saunas.
What makes a stay at Gilpin Hotel & Lake House unique?
The five fabulous detached Spa Lodges each have individual ensuite spas (treatment beds, steam room, rainmaker shower and stone bath inside, hydrotherapy hot tub and sauna outside) for a very special, private experience.
What are the rooms and facilities on offer at Gilpin Hotel & Lake House?
Gilpin Hotel is set amid 21 acres of the Lake District, the Spa Lodges and the Garden Suites are onsite, not at the Lake House, so if guests fancy a personal hot tub then the hotel is the place to be. The hotel houses 25 bedrooms in total, each have lovely Lakeland views, and most lead directly onto the gardens – six Junior Suites have patio doors leading onto the gardens with their own patio area, whilst six large open plan Garden Suites have their own decked area with individual cedarwood hot tubs.
What can guests enjoy when staying in the Windermere area?
The stunning landscape of the Lake District that treats one's eyes to glacial ribbon lakes, rugged fell mountains, historic literary associations, market towns, traditional inns, and galleries of local art.
Where can guests enjoy food and drink?
HRiSHi is where great Lake District produce meets classic method through the design of Desai’s imaginative food. The restaurant delivers modern British dishes with a twist of Asia: unbelievable textures and flavours are able to satisfy traditionalists whilst satisfying the thrill-seeking experimentalists. Gilpin Spice is an informal restaurant with inspired décor and an open kitchen transcending international boundaries. Its focus is to deliver a selection of sharing dishes, Desai personally sources the spices used to take guests on a spice trail journey that encompasses the Indian sub-continent, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Japan and China.
The Gilpin Lake House is just a mile from the hotel and houses six stunning rooms that all share a fully staffed boutique hotel that delivers a heated indoor swimming pool, outdoor hot tubs and saunas, and exclusive access to 100 acres of grounds that hides a beautiful, small private lake. Gilpin Lake House omits the air of a country house but with all the services of a hotel. Breakfast is served at the Lake House and a complimentary chauffeur is available to take guests to dine at HRiSHi or Gilpin Spice. The breath-taking viewpoint “Cat’s Crag” is amongst the 21 acres and has 360degree Lakeland views and is the perfect habitat for the herd of wild deer living nearby. Alternatively, a fresh walk around the lake and the gardens are a special way to spend a morning. For those feeling a tad more energetic, there are some stunning runs and bike trails, coarse fishing for the initiated, the option for a swim in the lake, or just a bit of fun on the water in one of the rowing boats.

Gilpin Hotel & Lake House is part of the following Inspirations:
"Although seemingly in the middle of a lush, green paradise miles from anywhere in the Lake District, actually, Gilpin is just six miles from bustling Bowness and only ten minutes from Beatrix Potter’s Hill Top House – both lovely day trips. This characterful Georgian hotel is known for its excellent service (everyone has a smile and a nod hello for you and nothing is too much trouble) and extremely stylish décor – I’d go as far as to say it’s rather glamorous. But family photos on the walls, smart lamps, cosy rugs and sitting chairs make you feel at home – if perhaps you were one of the Astors. For absolute tranquillity, book a spa suite on the periphery of the hotel where floor-to-ceiling windows, a Sonos sound system and hot tub, sauna and steam room perfect the get-away-from-it-all feel."
"Seemingly set in the middle of nowhere in the Lakes (but actually only a few miles from Bowness), the main hotel at the Gilpin is a glamorous, boutique-style Georgian house. So far, so stylish and cosy. But what makes this stunning get-away-from-it-all spot deliciously different are both its lovely garden suites (done out in classy Eastern tones and with their own private hot tubs) and its stunning spa suites, which sit on the edge of the site and allow you to totally switch off from modern life. You get your own hot tub, sauna, steam room and Sonos system and the floor-to-ceiling windows equal stunning fell views."
"Indecisive? Then look away now, for this family-run Lake District gem comprises not one temple to relaxation, but two. As if choosing between the Gilpin’s luxurious bedrooms (Hmmm – spa bath or hot tub?) wasn’t hard enough, there’s the über secluded Lake House to get all a dither about, too. Set in 100 acres of classic Cumbrian countryside, overlooking its own lake, the House features just six stunning suites, so at times it can feel like you’re the only souls for miles. The spa with its indoor pool, salt snug and outdoor hot tub, scores full marks on the tranquility ticker – but if you’re still to shake the city, on-call therapists can pamper you into serenity in the privacy of your own room."
"The original Gilpin House was built in 1901 in a conservative style influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement. Its 2009 refurbishment has reconceived the house in a radical style of which William Morris might have approved. There is indeed nothing here that is not "useful or beautiful". The library is a particular triumph, as is the new Lake House, a mile from the old hotel."
