Ashdown Park, Wych Cross, Forest Row, East Sussex, RH18 5JR
In the heart of the Ashdown Forest, the inspiration for AA Milne’s 100 Acre Wood, the luxurious Ashdown Park Hotel is pretty much everything you would expect from a country house hotel. Set in 186 glorious acres, the lawn sprawls downwards towards a lake making it just gorgeous to stroll around on a sunny summer’s day (although I opted to simply collapse into a deckchair in the shade of the summer house). Kids can indulge in outdoor games and golf on the putting green before a delicious Winnie The Pooh afternoon tea. Inside, stone arched doorways and fireplaces and wooden mezzanine balconies give the hotel a sort of Hogwarts-but-cosier feel. High windows, heavy drapes and evening candlelight make the Anderida Restaurant equally atmospheric by night – try the eight course tasting menu for total indulgence.
Ashdown Park Hotel & Country Club also has a Spa and Venue:
Ashdown Park Hotel & Country Club is part of the following Inspirations:
"Surrounded by 186 acres of lawns and lakes this 19th century mansion boasts ancient stone arches, elegant balconies and roaring log fires which spring to life in the winter months. One of the special things about Ashdown Park is that it has something for everyone; Children can jump in and enjoy the pool which even offers swimming lessons whilst parents can kick back in the bar and indulge in the hotel’s award winning Champagne list. Hikers will adore its position, close to the famous forests that inspired AA Milne’s famous book, 100 Acre Wood, and keen riders can tack up and explore the tracks and heaths on horseback. After an exhausting day of activities enjoy an elaborate tasting menu in the candle-lit Anderida Restaurant before retreating to your lavish room."
"Located within the heart of Ashdown Forest, this historic hotel boasts ancient stone arches, elegant balconies and roaring log fires. The 19th century mansion is also is a prime location for keen riders, with the nearby forest riding centre offering guests the chance to explore the 6,500 acres of un-spoilt heathland on horseback. After an exciting day’s hacking check out the hotel’s award-winning champagne list!"
"In the heart of the Ashdown Forest this neo-Gothic mansion has rolling lawns that dip into a fairytale lake. There’s a plethora of period rooms and suites including a converted chapel with stained glass windows and a real secret garden. But for the ultimate romantic ceremony there’s the summer house overlooking the lake."
"Fans of Winnie the Pooh may feel they know the sprawling grounds and woodland that surrounds Ashdown Park Hotel in rural Sussex. According to author AA Milne, the forest was the inspiration for his creation the 100 Acre Wood and it’s not hard to see why. The 6,400 acres of ancient woodland at your disposal is criss-crossed by footpaths and bridleways edged by spotless lawns, with lakes, secret gardens and woodland trails you’d expect Eeyore to inhabit. Follow the wildlife trails through the estate (you may stumble across the herds of wild deer that call Ashdown home) or go mountain biking along the hotel’s own bike paths. But don’t forget to make it back for afternoon tea – for some honey sandwiches perhaps?"
"Having just won an award for ‘Best Champagne List’, Ashdown Park is the perfect country escape for bubbly-loving ladies. Located within the heart of Ashdown Forest, the historic hotel boasts stone arches, elegant balconies and roaring log fires. After a girly afternoon in the spa, indulge in Anderida Restaurant’s 8 course tasting menu – now you couldn’t get away with that on a date could you!"
"Close to Ashdown Forest, the inspiration for AA Milne’s 100 Acre Wood, the staff at this rather lovely hotel make all Christopher Robins very welcome. There’s a special Winnie the Pooh tea if you’re staying there (honey sandwiches, Kanga cupcakes and Owl’s popcorn) and the swish Anderida restaurant will do half portions for younger guests. Ask for the children’s map to local Winnie the Pooh attractions at reception. If you’ve time before dinner, go for a stroll in the 644 acres of ancient woodland criss-crossed with footpaths and bridleways across secret gardens, lakes and woodland trails or pop into the neighbouring Ashdown Llama Park."
"Guests travelling with dogs can book into one of the Fairway Junior or Studio suites at the Ashdown Park Hotel in East Sussex. You can then roam the 186 acres of parkland together. Book a £30 a night Dog Package and your pet will be treated to a bed, blanket, treat and a dinner of either organic chicken breast or fresh grilled fish prepared by the hotel’s chef. If you opt out of the package dogs stay for free."
