What is the history of The Home of Charles Darwin, Down House to the present day?

Family home of Charles and Emma Darwin from 1842 until their death. In 1907 the house became Downe House, a school for girls run by Miss Olive Willis until 1921. In 1927 the house was bought by Sir George Buckston Brown and work commenced to turn the house into the Darwin museum.

An extensive museum is situated on the first floor that covers the life and work of Charles Darwin, with audio guides available for the ground floor show rooms which are laid out as they were when the Darwin family lived at the house.
