Discover Wonderland at Antony
If you've ever seen Tim Burton's movie Alice In Wonderland, the enigmatically named Antony will seem rather familiar – it provided the setting whilst Johnny Depp's off the wall Mad Hatter's Tea Party was all filmed in the grounds. This early 18th century mansion on the east Cornwall peninsula at Torpoint has a frontage adorned with silver-grey Pentewan stone and is flanked by grand colonnaded wings of mellow brick and is a treat to the eye, as are the wonderful views over the River Lynher you get from the estate (take a stroll along the Yew Walk for the best vistas). Inside the house expect exquisite furniture, paintings and collectables amassed by the Carew Pole family who inhabit the house. Explore the eighteenth century Dovecote in the Repton-designed grounds and meander through the Woodland Garden for stunning rhododendrons, azaleas, magnolias and camellias displays.
