Overview

If you enjoy the challenge of links golf, Western Gailes will test your skills to their limit. A magnificent seaside links with glorious turf and wonderful greens. It's a course that should be on every golfer's must play list. The club dates its history back to 1897 and offers a blend of the traditional and modern.

What style is the course at Western Gailes Golf Club?

Western Gailes is a true links course. The architect used the natural contours of the land but he was also severe in the placement of bunkers.

Western Gailes feature hole is the 7th, it's one of the great links par 3s

What sort of course features can the player expect?

Major hazards include the beach to the west of the course, the railway line to the east, three burns and a testing breeze off the Firth of Clyde. The course is highly rated in various league tables of worldwide courses.

Other Information

The course is often used for final qualifying for the Open and it has hosted the Curtis Cup along with 8 Scottish Amateur Championships while attracting many top professionals.

Visitor Information: Visitors times are available to be pre-booked as follows: Monday, Wednesday & Friday: 14:00 - 16:30, Tuesdays and Thursdays: 14:00 - 15:00, Saturday: 15:30 - 16:30, Sunday: 14:30 - 16:00. Handicap, all golfers are welcome. All visitors are expected to wear suitable golfing attire on the course (please note no denims). Golf wear is allowed within most areas of the Clubhouse, apart from the Main Lounge. Tailored shorts worn with over the ankle socks socks are permitted. Mobile phones may be used in the car park, but not on the course or in any part of the Clubhouse.

Catering: full lunch is available in the dining room every day, except Saturdays & Sundays. A comprehensive snack menu is available at all times. Lunch is included in the green fee, apart from weekends. Breakfast, High Tea or Dinner is also available by prior arrangement with the Reservations team.
