With views across the Dornoch Firth, Tain's setting is dramatic with the estuary on one side and the mountains of Easter Ross on the other. John Sutherland revised the layout, but there are still 11 of Old Tom Morris's greens in use on the 6,404 yard lay-out. It's a links course with heather and gorse while the Aldie Burn meanders through the course, starting at the 391 yard par four second. The par four 11th (Alps) has blind approach shot over two dunes to a hidden green and then there are successive fine par threes at 16 and 17 before the home hole.
