Opened by the Lee Westwood Touring Professional Club in May 2011, the Lee Westwood Colt Championship at Close House is a classic, cleverly designed English parkland layout providing a high range of exceptional holes through the estate of an 18th-century mansion, now a wonderful hotel. Individual features of the area, such as the forest, the Roman fort and the historic wall, have been skilfully integrated with panoramic views of the Tyne Valley, only ten miles from Newcastle.
What sort of course features can the player expect?
Each hole takes a different direction, and the winding terrain offers contrast and value over a length of 6,850 yards (par 71). The quality of the four par threes is a solid feature, while the 418-yard par-four 18th, with a bunker, wall and lake to avoid, provides a strong finish. The original Lee Westwood Filly course (6,000 yards, par 70) perfectly suits the main course.
