The internationally renowned gardens at Trewithen, near Truro in Cornwall, are a botanical treasure trove featuring a magnificent collection of camellias, magnolias and rhododendrons as well as other rare and highly-prized plants. Nestled within 30 acres of wonderful woods and parkland, this dazzling spot is one of only 30 gardens in the world to be recognised as an International Camellia Society Garden of Excellence and is RHS recommended. Central to the gardens is Trewithen House, which has hosted many royals including King George V and Queen Mary in 1927 and Prince Charles while celebrating his 60th year as Duke of Cornwall. It has also provided the backdrop to a number of Rosamunde Pilcher films. A tour of the House reveals intimate rooms that boast wonderful architectural features and furniture and art collections of nearly three centuries. Having been inspired by the gardens, don't forget to pop into Trewithen's Plant Centre which sells an extensive range of plants before settling down for a morning coffee or lunch in the café.
