Explore the stunning grounds of and Elizabethan House
Montacute House and gardens is a simple, elegant, Elizabethan garden comprised largely of green spaces, of lawns and processions of clipped yews. Most memorable is the formal sunken lawn beside the house, fringed with borders of rich pinks and purples and backed by balustraded, pinnacled walls and fine pavilions.
Montacute House also has a Historic House:
Montacute House is part of the following Travel Ideas:
"This honey-coloured Somerset mansion most recently starred as Johnny Depp’s ‘den of iniquity’ in The Libertine, but it’s also had its Jane Austen moment. In the Oscar-winning Sense and Sensibility, Marianne (Kate Winslet) is running through the rain, inconsolable after being rejected by her lover, Mr Willougby. She’s running down Montacute’s famous West Drive."
