Copped Hall rang bells from my childhood, (I remember my aunt's talking about it when I was a child). As a gardener I enjoyed my visit, the different levels of the garden and the different areas and eras. I particularly like walled gardens having visited many in National Trust and private properties and now Britain's Finest. I also enjoyed the rock garden. There is a yew tree walk which has been replanted and the greenhouses in the kitchen garden are being renovated The restoration being undertaken at Copped Hall put me in mind of Aberglasney near where I live in Carmarthen-shire, Wales. This is a very grand house that was allowed to fall into an advanced state of disrepair, and some might have seen it's fate to remain as a crumbling ruin. Fortunately, there are a dedicated group of people who are restoring the house, hoping eventually to return it to its former glory. Now's the time to go and see it, before the work is complete, and get a feel for the monumental task and see the 'before' then come back in 10 years to see the 'after'. DavidE
